How can you top the Ritz-Carlton? The location alone, smack in the middle of the best shopping and dining in Atlanta is enough to stop by. But the fabulous indoor pool, superior service and amazing rooms take it to a league all its own.Recommended for:

This location is right off of Peachtree Road and directly across the street from Lenox Mall. Parking here can be a bit hectic but there is a paid lot directly next to the hotel. The Ritz Buckhead definitely lives up to the chains high-end brand with ornate interior decorations and a gorgeous chandelier in the driveway. This is a great place to stay for anyone whose looking for a little bit of luxury with their trip to the city.

The staff at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead is very nice and keep true to the brand's expectations, however the decor of this location is dated and distracting. From the moment you enter, there is an old-world feel and it is a little stifling. The carpets are busy, the walls are dark and the fixtures are gaudy. Guest rooms are a little bit brighter but have the feeling of an early 90’s beach resort. The indoor pool could use an overhaul, as well. I have visited many Ritz-Carlton Hotels, but this one is my least favorite so far. This is a great location in the heart of Buckhead. It is across the street from the best shopping in the Southeast. The hotel is very family friendly. The spa seems lovely and there is an entire floor dedicated to relaxation, so that maybe something worth checking out.Recommended for:

I am normally a Ritz-Carlton girl but this location is in desperate need of repair and renovation. The "Victorian Beach" decor style is faded and dated and seems less of a haven than a last ditch effort to show Buckhead that it can compete with the other luxury hotels in the area. The sad news is that it really can't.
The lobby is huge with a working fireplace and service from the hotel restaurant but it's a bit shabby looking and can be a bit confusing if you're trying to find the front desk and you come in from a door other than the main door. There is a spa on the 9th floor which was closed on the day that I was there, but I find it odd that the spa is on the same floor as functional hotel rooms. Imagine trying to relax while waiting for your service, only to have screaming children running down the hall on their way to the pool! That is the exact reason why most hotels have their spa facility separated from the guest rooms and if this Ritz is ever renovated, that would be one of my main suggestions to them. There is an indoor, salt water pool with a sun deck, a hot tub and comfortable lounge chairs. The glass was fairly dirty the day that I was there so the entire pool area seemed a little dingy and confined. One nice touch, though, is that they have cold towels with cucumber slices at the entrance to the pool area. The fitness room is very small with televisions and complimentary water. It's definitely not the most high tech fitness room in the neighborhood *but* it was the only fitness room I have ever been in that was held at a steady cold temperature so that you could exercise for a while before feeling like you were going to suffocate!
As for the rooms, the bed is fantastic with a pillow top mattress and ridiculously high thread count linens. There is a mini bar in the room along with a tv, an iPod dock and a WiFi connection for $10 a day. There are two different types of guest bathrooms - one with a walk in shower or one with a bathtub. The bathtub was very old looking and didn't quite live up to the Ritz standard that I have come to expect. The walk in shower was very nice, though, and there were live plants in the bathroom which was a nice touch. The rooms are comfortable but other than the bed, there is nothing very special about staying at this Ritz.
The location is wonderful - across the street from Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza and only 2 blocks to MARTA - but sadly, this is not a Ritz that I would ever recommend to any out of town guests that I was housing.

You can never go wrong with the Ritz, it delivers on its promise. Great service, wonderful rooms, wonderful food. The location is central and the subway/marta is convenient. Good shopping a short walk away. It's a five star restaurant but I give it a 4 star review because ultimately I prefer hotels that are a bit smaller and personal.
