This place has the best view in the bay area! The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful beaches in the bay, on top of a cliff, with great hiking trails around it and an amazing golf course. It's a great place for a brunch with a beautiful ocean view and a nice buffet.

The Ritz may be expensive but you don't need to stay here to enjoy it. My wife loves getting an overpriced glass of wine and some munchies and enjoying the sunset on either the back patio or the main bar area. Outside, the bag pipers play as the sun sets. Memorable and often stunning!

The serene cliffside location of this Ritz-Carlton makes it one of the most beautiful and romantic hotels in the Bay Area, if not the entire US.

Our luxurious coastal view room was fabulously appointed. The bed was so comfortable - had it not been so gorgeous outside, I could've stayed in bed all day long. Service was top notch all the way.

Enjoy some cocktails from the Conservatory Lounge - they are wonderfully crafted. Take your drink outside, grab a blanket and cozy up by one of the fire pits.

If you're a golfer, make sure to book your tee times in advance. Their championship golf courses are a dream to play on.

    Location, Location, Location.....

It doesn't get better than this place. Great staff, restaurants, rooms and vibe, but the location is breathtaking.

I will join the others in griping a bit about the location of the pool....but even that was not a huge deal, you just have to walk a little bit. My favorite place to hang out was (with a cocktail) near the fire pit facing the ocean, listening to the waves crash onto the shore.

If you get the chance, you must stay here at some point!

Grab a seat on the patio to enjoy the stunning views of the pacific. Try to score a seat by the fire pit if it's a chilly day.

Finally, I had the chance to visit the infamous Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay. This property has a well-deserved fantastic reputation. The location makes for a perfect Northern California state-cation or company retreat; it's about 45 minutes from San Francisco and 30 minutes from Silicon Valley. Easily accessible, but feels like a world away.

The theme of this Ritz is wine and fire, honoring the wine of the region and the need for fire to keep warm on the chilly coast. This creates a cozy atmosphere, making you feel right at home. Of course incredible local food is also honored in two restaurants, one of which (Navio) is undergoing renovations and upgrades this Spring.

This is an ideal destination for golfers since the lodging is located between two excellent courses boasting views of the Pacific coast. The hotel also welcomes furry guests; they even have a monthly Yappy Hour.

There are endless different room types, which means there is a perfect fit for everyone. The one Ritz Carlton Suite on property is especially impressive; the perfect place to host a cocktail party and indulge in the plush surroundings. Rooms with fire pits are also extraordinary. Imagine grabbing a s'more package, selecting a bottle of red wine and curling up on your porch by the fire. Then you can truly appreciate this reasons this secluded escape earned this fantastic reputation.

Virtuoso amenities include: upgrade to the next room category at time of check-in based upon availability, daily breakfast, $100 spa credit and early check-in/late check-out subject to availability.

During the Fall, there can be amazing sunsets that you can view from the Coastal Access path, this one was on Thanksgiving day 2012.

Wow. What a fantastic hotel. The Ritz Half Moon Bay is designed to look like one of the old seaside lodges of the 18th century. The service at the hotel was amazing - from the moment you walked in the door, the staff radiated friendliness asking how they could help, offering us bottled water as we waited to check in. We had a sea view room, which had a big window overlooking the sea cliffs and the beach below. The rooms were big and very nicely done, with a large king size bed and a large padded lounge where you could read next to the window.

They also have an amazing back patio area where you can sit around a huge fire pit with big blankets on your lap, taking in the ocean with a cocktail in hand.

One of the best parts of the hotel, though, was the back patio, where they had 2 large gas fire pits, where you could sit around the fire in big wooden chairs drinking wine while taking in the sweeping views. It is often cold, but between the fire, thick wool blankets and the cocktails you dont seem to notice. They even offer luxury smores kits, so you can roast your own.

The spa was nice - they had a nice jacuzzi and steam rooms. My wife got a massage and said it was good though not amazing. The hotel was also kid-friendly. We were there on Easter Sunday where they had an amazing brunch but also lots of childrens' activities, including a petting zoo and an easter egg hunt.

The only real complaint I had (other than the $50 per night parking, which seemed like a way of masking the true price of the hotel) was that the hotel lacks a pool. They give you access to the pool next door at sea colony, but it is a good 5-10 minute walk outside, which was pretty inconvenient.

Overall I would include the Ritz Half Moon in my top 10 hotel list.

We stayed here mid-week (husband + 2 kids). Fortunately for us, it was not busy. The staff were very friendly, especially to our busy children in the two restaurants. They also upgraded us proactively. You cannot beat the views. Meal prices are high, but they work hard to provide local, in-season, varied options. Great drinks too! Morning coffee is free in the Conservatory.

Located on private bluffs in gorgeous Half Moon Bay just south of San Francisco the Ritz has it all. If you're a San Franciscan go for a little staycation (weekend get away), and if you're in from out of town come here for authentic Californian luxury. Play a round of golf on their private course, then get a massage or unwind in the spa before having a glass of California wine while watching the sunset by the fire-pits.

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
My room was in the guesthouse which was about a 5-7 minute walk from the hotel. That was a little bit of a drag since I was there for a conference and was in business attire (high-heeled shoes). I don't carry much cash with me aside from enough for housekeeping so I wasn't prepared for the need to tip a driver to take me to and from the main hotel. I also wasn't prepared to need help with my luggage since I typically handle it all myself. However, my room was on the 2nd floor and I had a couple of bulky and hefty bags to haul up while wearing heels. My point really is that I felt like a slave to require help instead of it only being a nice option. I do not like to accept help without offering a tip.
The back patio is amazing! The view of the cliffs against the Pacific Ocean was breath-taking. Add an evening bag-piper and some mist on the ocean during sunset and you get some melancholy people choking back tears as the piper hits the high notes.
The first day there, I said to myself, "This place is nice, but I'm not feeling the $$$ paid". Well, that evening, I hopped into the bed and ate my thoughts. Oh Ma GAW! What a dream that bed was! It felt like the bed was giving me a warm hug on a cool night.

Wonderful resort with beautiful views and wonderful ambiance, the Ritz HMB is a great option for city folks to "get away" without being too far away. Playing golf on a foggy day is next to impossible however but being in this gorgeous property any time, good or foggy weather is a great experience.

Right on a beautiful section of Northern California coast. Off the beaten path, but not hard to get to (about 45 min from SFO). Great golf, spa and grounds.

Top notch service, phenomenal views. You don't have to stay here to enjoy this place - walk around the golf course or just relax outside by the giant fire pits.

Situated between two HMB 18-hole courses, this is a great place to take in the scenery. The seats outside provide a view of the Old Course 18th hole. The spa here is nice. Good services and access to a gym with views of the water. It's nice to sit indoors and have a drink. During the summer, a guy in Scottish kilt comes out to play the bagpipes. Neat. Some of the rooms have individual outdoor fireplaces. Perfect for those foggy nights on the coast.

Very pricey, but a great place to escape with your better half. I highly recommend the outside fire place room. If you request it, they'll set you up with a bottle of wine, graham crackers, chocolate, and mellows... How the better half camps!

beautiful relaxing hotel set right by the cliffs. The staff is very friendly and the service outstanding. The spa is nice, though I missed a relaxing room there. Unfortunately the swimming pool is 5 min. walk from the hotel. We had dinner at the restaurant - tried the tasting menu which was fantastic!

Love coming to Half Moon Bay since it's a very short drive from where I live but a whole world different. The Ritz here is located right on the bluff/cliff and has an amazingly beautiful view. Also has two golf courses if you are into a round of golf.
