The Ritz-Carlton

600 Stockton Street, San Francisco, CA 94108
5
16 reviews

An impeccable European style hotel in San Francisco, very smart and subdued, no kitschy props to offend, so comfortable. Centrally located but just tucked away from the hurly burly and hoi poloi. On the small side for a large hotel, with at least a semblance of intimacy. Food is up to standards too.

Great cocktails, cool ambiance, and very knowledgeable and friendly mixologists. Go with a group for a great night, or find a small table for 2 in the back for a more romantic setting.

You won't really understand San Francisco, until you walk through Chinatown. Visit the fortune cookie factory, stop for tea, eat dim sum, and watch the men playing chess in the park or practicing tai chi. It is a short walk from Union Square and yet a world away.

I never know what to feel about the Burritt Room. It's a beautiful space with solid drinks, but, when it's busy, it can seem like hours before you're able to get a drink in your hand (I timed it to 30 minutes before giving up once). During one occasion, a bartender was showcasing a particular vodka that, even when served ...

The Union Square location for Williams-Sonoma is one of the best in the country. Spanning three levels, this culinary store has everything for the professional and non-professional chef alike. Unlike most Williams-Sonomas, they also have cooking classes throughout the week. I once met Tyler Florence here, so it's a great place for celebrity sightings as well!

Cool bar in the Rex Hotel with a beautiful interior much like a library. Wines start at $7 and are heavy pours (not bad for a hotel bar). Cocktails are more pricey. Buffalo Trace or Bulleit for $8 (a measuring stick for all you whiskey lovers).

Portsmouth Square is considered the heart of Chinatown, a one block park that is not only an open air community center for the Chinese community, but also a place of historical significance. It is an official California Historical Landmark for three reasons: 1) First raising of the American flag on what was called Yerba Buena (later changed to San Francisco) ...

I've been talking nonstop about Rouge et Blanc. Prices are reasonable, wine is served in separate glasses (so you can pour it as you prefer into your glass), they serve food and they have excellent taste in music. The space is comfortable and large, and the service here is very friendly. I'll be back soon!

I've walked by the San Francisco Fountain for years. I've even sat for hours on the steps next to it.
