The Ritz-Carlton

600 Stockton Street, San Francisco, CA 94108
5
16 reviews

An impeccable European style hotel in San Francisco, very smart and subdued, no kitschy props to offend, so comfortable. Centrally located but just tucked away from the hurly burly and hoi poloi. On the small side for a large hotel, with at least a semblance of intimacy. Food is up to standards too.

Grabbing lunch in the Financial District conjures images of power lunches with people in suits or a really quick takeout spot. I love Galette 88 because it's a nice middle ground. Sure, you could order a galette to go, but there is enough seating to sit and catch up with a friend, and the atmosphere isn't stuffy. Galettes range from ...

Shopping in Union Square? Hungry? Hop over here for some delish southern food and drinks! It's more of a hipster bar than a cafe, as you may expect from a southern food joint. A+ for the buttermilk fried chicken that was tender and not greasy and didn't have that over-breaded heaviness to it. Came with jalapeƱo cornbread, creamed collards, summer ...

Gitane is my new favorite restaurant in S.F. Very cool decor, great vibe, and phenomenal food. We did Tapas style and ordered a bunch of small plates. Would highly recommend the calamari stuffed with serrano ham and the lamb tartare.

Great spot by Chinatown/FiDi SF for Asian fusion food. The interior is beautiful and modern; they also have a second floor. I enjoyed the satay four ways (chicken, beef, mushroom, and shrimp; you have a choice of what you want) and the butternut squash dumpllings! The cucumber cooler drink was interesting too -- it was made with ginger beer (real ...

Lovely restaurant with good service and tasty food in SF's semi-touristy European alley, Belden Lane. The only real downside are the prices. It's not cheap! Get some fries and the bowl of tasty mussels.

I love Coffee Bar, so I was stoked when they opened another location across the street from my office. The location I used to go to was only about 3 blocks away, but this one is so close. The entrance is by the pedestrian exit from the Saint Mary's garage. It's decorated in the same style with wood interior. They ...

The spot is among the row of French restaurants on Belden Place. There's a covered outdoor patio, so sit outside if the weather is nice :) They're known for their mussels and seafood, so I recommend one of those dishes! I loved the Oysters Rockefeller and truffle fries for lunch. The service is great and they were quite accommodating for ...

This place has been one of the more recent (by recent, I mean the last 30 years) cornerstones of Chinatown Restaurants, and is a popular place. The reasons are: location near Portsmouth Square's parking garage on Kearny; near the Hilton Hotel Chinatown (formerly the Holiday Inn); between Chinatown and the Financial District; and the food and service are consistently good. ...

Nob Hill Kitsch! Didn't used to be kitchy; from the '40s through the '70s this was the traditional place for your 21st birthday. "Thunderstorm" is kinda cheesy but kids will love it. Despite Nob HIll prices, drinks are potent and food is well prepared and delicious. Authentic? Maybe not, but it's a fusion of various cultures' foods, and the experience ...

Interesting drink choices like lavender mint lattes. They have a variety of baked goods to choose from as well as sandwiches. Got the chicken pesto lunch special that comes with a side (choice of salad or soups) for under $8 not including tax. Got a toffee caramel latte that was delicious as well!

Yummy! The menu has the instructions for ordering and when I was here, there was a worker who was coming outside with menus and to answer questions for people in line. A little bit of my childhood. I had to build up a tolerance to the oil of the chicken katsu plate with all the trimmings. Now, older and healthier, I opt instead for the barbecue chicken with brown rice and tossed salad. (I guess this is growing up.) This location, despite the outside appearance, is clean and the staff are ...

Buddha Bar is a solid Chinatown bar with cheap drinks and friendly service that caters to a young crowd. Totally unpretentious, it's a great place to relax in an area mostly populated by strange Asian bars. I definitely prefer Buddha Bar to Li Po Lounge across the street, as it's not only cheaper but it also seems cleaner.

One of the best cappuccinos in the city. Usually you have to wait in line, and there are no seats, but you can take your coffee outside and sit on a bench overlooking the water while you caffeinate. The line is always long but moves really fast.

Tony's Pizza lives up its reputation as being a world-class pizza joint. They have five different pizza ovens (wood fired, coal, gas, etc) to make all the different styles appropriately. I've been going since they first opened and the quality is consistently top notch. There is always a long wait, so visit the slice house next door if you're pressed ...
