The Ritz tops our list for luxury San Francisco hotels. We love the opulence, apparent the moment a top hat-clad doorman welcomes you into the classical entrance. With its perch atop the Stockton Tunnel overlooking Chinatown and downtown San Francisco, the grand dame of hotels offers a host of elegant touches: massages, a sumptuous dining room, and superior service.
Hint: Stay on the club level floors for even better attention to detail.Recommended for:

The Ritz obviously has a reputation but I have only stayed in the SF location. I thought it was incredible... The rooms were amazing, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location is smack in the center of the FIDI (financial district). If you have the funds I recommend it.Recommended for:

I've stayed here twice, including last year for my wife's birthday. One of my favorite hotels in the City. I love the location right smack on top of Nob Hill. Easy walking distance to some of cities major attractions and next to a cable car stop.
Parking in the area is expensive, but if you stay on a weekend you might score free street parking. Then again if you are staying here, you can probably just afford to valet your car.

I had High Tea at the Ritz Carlton with one of my best girlfriends, and it was amazing! We went here to celebrate her graduation from residency, and I wanted to find a place as grand and delicious and special as High Tea at the Peninsula in Beverly Hills. We were not disappointed.
The tea. I chose Earl Grey, and it was delicious.
The food. Amazing. The tea sandwiches were very tasty, and the pastries were excellent. The scones were absolutely delicious.
Service--Amazing. Our server was extremely courteous and pleasant. He took care of every need we had and even brought us extra scones when we raved about them.Recommended for:

Ok I'm just going to comment on their grilled cheese and raspberry drinks. The grilled cheese it the most amazing thing ever. It's something I dream about. I'm not sure the type of cheeses they use but they are spectacular with the caramelized onion. The raspberry drinks are some sort of muddled vodka concoction. The hotel is very beautiful as well and in a neat part of the city. It's on Stockton St. above the tunnel and not below fyi so if you are wondering around China town you are on the lower Stockton St.

I've never actually stayed here, but I've attended several events and got the chance to bask in the Luxury. One was the a University of Iowa Alumni get-together that included an outdoor tent, elegantly dressed staff, and an expectation of a large contribution. Another was Teddy Bear Tea with my step-daughter and her friend.Recommended for:
