I always wondered whether the Ritz-Carlton was named after the word ritzy, or if the word ritzy derived from the glam and storied Ritz hotels. When you walk into this Ritz, in one of Santiago's toniest neighborhoods, you are inclined to think the word was derived from the hotel. The place just smells like wealth, and it has to be one of the most English-speaking places in Santiago. If you want to be in a hotel where every detail is thought of, this is it. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, in kind of a floral way. The beds are about four feet tall, they're so stuffed with feathers or something else just as cushy. The bathtub is jaccuzi, of course. But you pay for all that ritziness: Want internet? Extra charge. Breakfast? Extra charge. Parking? Extra charge. Certainly, one gets the feeling that the guests here just don't mind. I'm being petty and knocking off one star because this airline-like charging for every extra is annoying to me, and because one of the staffmembers was a little rude with me, though everybody else was perfectly professional.

If you're looking for a safe, luxurious hotel where you will be pampered by a very polite and friendly hotel staff, then the Ritz-Carlton is your hotel. When I say it's a safe hotel, I'm referring to the fact that the hotel was built to withstand an earthquake measuring 12 on the Richter Scale, which means it will take the equivalent of a nuclear bomb to collapse this hotel.

Of course it was excellent, what else would one expect from the Ritz. Friendly and attentive staff, spacious rooms with comfy feather beds. Luxury is at every corner, fine dining in the hotel or just around the corner in any direction. The view from the room shows off the most modern of Santiago. Car service is at the waiting and everyone seems to be fluent in English. Downside though, and other guest agree, why does the Ritz over charge for wifi access. Nickel and dime you for internet? It feels like what a second rate hotel would do. I'm knocking you back a star for that one, Ritz. You should know what your clients want.

This is a classic place that meets every condition for a wonderful stay. Comfortable and luxurious, needless to say, but better than that is its intimate atmosphere, and its smiling staff that make you feel welcome, their candid voice representing the hotel's spirit well. The pool and its surroundings resemble a wellness oasis conveniently located on the terrace. But a few details seem a little lacking – the spa seems somewhat reduced for this category of hotel. The price seems excessive to me, but those who enjoy luxury might will find this hotel to their entire pleasure.
