Ritzy is an understatement when it comes to this luxurious high rise Shanghai property. Make sure you head up to trendy Flair for a cocktail and breathtaking views on the 58th floor.

This Ritz is everything that you'd expect from a Ritz. Well-appointed rooms and public spaces with good service and high quality food & beverage. The Starbucks next door is also a big plus. Less distinctively Chinese on the design than some other properties (e.g., The Peninsula) but a pleasant stay that can sometimes be downright affordable.

If you love to shop, there is absolutely no better hotel in the city than the Ritz-Carlton Pudong. Walk five steps from the hotel lobby and you will immediately find yourself immersed in a veritable retail heaven—Ferragamo next to Prada next to Armani. Back in the hotel itself, you’ll find all the luxe amenities one would expect from a Ritz Carlton, including a world-class bar that seemingly sits on top of the world. Flair is truly one of the best place to take in the entirety of the Shanghai skyline, but be warned that nabbing a prime table outside will cost you a pretty penny (I was told 3000 RMB minimum spend, though the price seems to fluctuate). 5-star dining outlets also abound because of the hotel’s proximity to the mall. Morton’s Steakhouse will provide a taste of home or try Din Tai Fung for a more authentic flavor.

The first thing that stuck me about the Ritz-Carlton were the views, on a clear sunny day Shanghai is absolutely spectacular and I was lucky enough to stay at the Ritz on one of those days. The main lobby is on the 53rd floor and the floor to ceiling windows made for a breathtaking view of most of the city. The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from the Ritz, beautifully decorated with large bathrooms and very comfortable beds, in China this is always a plus. There is a really nice afternoon tea in the jazz bar that overlooks the Bund, so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle below in Lujiazui. The hotel also provides maps by the windows so you can figure out what the old buildings across the river are, as history buff I really appreciated this detail. On a side note, even if you aren’t staying at the Ritz be sure to check out Flair bar, al fresco dining and drinking… looks like you could give the Oriental Pearl a high-five you’re so close.

Walking into the Lobby of the Ritz will literally take your breath away. It just smells SO GOOD. The café in the corner, appropriately named Aroma, serves up coffee shop style bites at main street prices; and smells amazing. It’s not overpowering or anything, you are just greeted with a pleasant scent that makes you think “Oooo, something smells good”. The real lobby is on the 52nd floor (which can be somewhat confusing if your room is on 43 and you need to go to 52 to check out and then go down to the 1st floor…) and opens into the restaurant that has one of the most popular afternoon tea sets in Shanghai. The infinity pool looks out over the river and I can personally recommend lounging in the Jacuzzi after a few glasses of wine soaking up the cityscape. The ESPA is one of the most unique spas I’ve ever visited- mirrors, bright reds and sharp angles are reminiscent of a space ship, but definitely work for this urban sanctuary. The rooms are comfortable with every amenity you would expect from the Ritz. The area, Lujiazui, has plenty of restaurants and bars and is a short taxi ride to the Bund.
