The Riviera Hotel has made some great efforts in the way of environmental design. Though it’s a bit of a jaunt from the nearest MRT station and the décor and furnishing looks like the interior of a house from the 1980s (green and yellow striped curtains and giant sea green lamps), all is forgiven when you see what’s on top—a green roof garden, a super environmentally-friendly fixture that also keeps the building’s temperature stable. Part of the garden is dedicated to organic vegetables and herbs that are used in the hotel’s restaurants. For a city in which gardens of any sort are a rare sight, The Riviera Hotel’s rooftop oasis is a nice place for an evening stroll or chat. Be sure to at least stop and smell the roses (literally!) on your way to the fitness center, also located on the roof level.

The hotel has kind of a Mediterranean vibe, very relaxing. As you walk in the door you’ll notice the hotel isn’t very large, but it’s more laid-back. There’s even a nice high-end steakhouse on the first floor, and the Yacht Club on the second floor is open late so you can relax with a drink even when you get in from a late flight. I like the design of the rooms, which have sort of a clean separation between the business desk and bed, like a good definition of space between work and relaxation. The eco green garden on the roof is a cool touch that lets the whole hotel feel cooler. The restaurant’s chef even grows vegetables there, so you know the food is very fresh and organic.Recommended for:Business Travelers
