I have stayed at the Royal Hawaiian twice in the last three years, once in the historic building and once in the 1969 tower. Both have their advantages and both have been renovated in the last few years.
The historic building has larger rooms and taller ceilings, but most of them have no balcony and no ocean view. The coconut grove view and the front driveway view are nice, but it's not like looking at the pacific ocean and Waikiki Beach. The view and the balconies are the primary reason why the 1969 tower is an attractive option. The rooms are a little smaller, but who cares! We very much enjoyed our room on the 8th floor overlooking that gorgeous stretch of beach and aqua blue water! Even the view from the corridor leading to the elevator, of the buildings in Waikiki is interesting.
We love the assortment of shops available on the ground floor of the historic building. Tori Richard, Cartier, and Hula-la Swimwear are just a few. Azure is an excellent and creative seafood restaurant on the ocean side, and the Mai Tai Bar is perfection for the signature drink and people watching.
One of the best things about the RH is its location on Waikiki Beach. Gray's Beach, the stretch of sand in front of the hotel is one of the nicest stretches on the whole beach, and it's delightful to walk out in the clear water until you're neck deep.
I really can't say enough great things about the Royal Hawaiian. It's history alone is such an intriguing aspect of both the location and the hotel itself. I appreciate it so much that it almost feels like home.

This is my favorite hotel in the world. The private beach area on Wakiki is a huge draw and benefit. I love having an afternoon drink by the beach. Its great to watch the sunrise and set at the restaurant. The hotel remain calm despite all the chaos outside.

This is the most prettiest hotel on the island of O'ahu I thought. Not to mention the color itself is already pretty. (in Pink) The entrance alone will take your breath away. With displays of fresh locally and exotic flowers all around the hotel.
Having an afternoon tea here was memorable for me. It's like, I am back in England allover again.

Fantastic old but remodeled Hotel right on Waikiki Beach. You must stay in the old section of the Hotel - it has much more charm and character. I suggest one of the Suites. I have stayed their on Business Trips and Family Vacations and the staff are always helpful, smiling and professional. Big Thumbs Up!Recommended for:Business Travelers

Yes you really do get a chilled pink lemonade when you arrive! every guest gets one! The Royal Hawaiian is number one in style and service if that's what you're looking for in Hawaii. The hotel is one of the oldest on Waikiki Beach and hosts a lot of events everyday. I just walked up to the concierge and they gave me all the details about evenings shows, performances and lots more. It's exciting to stay in such a historically rich hotel with 5-star amenities surrounded by beautiful grounds, architecture and people.

The Royal Hawaiian is one of the oldest hotels in Waikiki, and this hotel just gets better with age. Although it is conveniently located right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, the sprawling grounds ensure peace and tranquility within the actual resort itself. The moment you enter the resort ladies are greeted with a fresh orchid lei and men with a kukui nut necklace, chilled pink lemonade is offered to guests during check in. Once you arrive at your room you will find a fresh loaf of the Royal Hawaiian's signature banana nut bread waiting for you as a small welcome. The rooms have been beautifully restored and you are sure to enjoy a good nights sleep in their plush beds. The spa and swimming pool are quite small, however, guests of the Royal Hawaiian share the stunning ocean view infinity pool and spa with the Sheraton next door. The onsite Surf Lanai is an excellent option for a casual breakfast or lunch, the Mai Tai Bar offers coctails and pupus, and Azure is a wonderful dining experience not to be missed. The staff at the Royal Hawaiian are incredibly friendly and gracious, they made our stay at this wonderful hotel absolutely unforgettable.
