The Scotch Malt Whisky Society

28 Queen Street, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH2 1JX, United Kingdom
1 review

It's expensive to get in here, but part of the fun of being in Scotland is to make new friends and hopefully one of them will be a member. That's just what I did and they got me in to sample many different delicious scotches from private distilleries. They also serve food to go with the whiskey as well as ...

There are two sides to the gardens, on the east side the gardens are dominated by the Scot Monument and on the west side Edinburgh Castle. Separated by the mound, a road leading from Princes Street to the Royal Mile (or Edinburgh's High Street) and sporting the two main art galaries in Edinburgh. Once in the gardens you can be ...

    Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party

0.19 mi from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society
    2 reviews

This is Edinburgh's version of New Year's Eve. Way better than New York in my opinion. Tons of bands playing, street vendors on Princes Street where everyone crowds in and rides for the kids including a huge ferris wheel. There was about 80,000 on the street when I went. You can even grab a few beers at one of the ...

Rose Street is touristy for sure! But there are a high number of pubs to capture your attention or a few of your coins as you wander around at night. It's a pretty lively area.

    Sir Walter Scott Monument

0.21 mi from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society
    2 reviews

The Scott Monument looks like the top of a church that might be buried under Princes Park. For £4, you can climb the almost 300 steps to look out from several of the levels. The staircase at the top is very narrow! Don't miss the small room at the first level. The stained glass windows are amazing.

Why Not is a run of the mill basement nightclub in trendy George St. There's couple of seating areas & huge dance floor. Cheap drink deals & cheesy pop music! £5 entry but be prepared to queue to get in! Busy at weekends but popular with students mid-week.

Another underground venue. This one has Morrocan style interiors, intimate booths so you can sit with your mates or go & boogie on the dance floor & mingle with the masses! DJ plays mainly funky house & electro music.

A better location for a cocktail bar is hard to be found. The Palm Sugar is located at the top of a building in New Town Edinburgh with excellent views over the area, including the Castle when you're on the outdoor roof deck.

Interesting bar, cheap drinks, lively people, and a hidden ladies room (it's in the book case and makes you feel as though you're in a murder mystery). What more could a person ask for in a theme pub. I wasn't brave enough to try their mixed liquor concoctions.

A dime a dozen type of pub on Rose Street, which is brimming with options. The outside seating was a plus, but there is not a lot that makes this pub stand out.

Lots of shops both high and low end (and ones in the middle). Highlights for me were HMV (surely this must be the last one in existence as I could not find it at all in London), shops selling quality rain jackets, Waterstones and The Works (both bookstores catering to different crowds) and the entrance to Jenner's.
