When I used to work near the St. Regis, I'd walk past the hotel’s big windows and see the lobbyists eating their $300 lunches on my way to the burrito cart. My husband and I splurged on our anniversary dinner here one year and it was worth every penny. The current restaurant, the Ardour, is under renovation now and scheduled to reopen Jan. 17. You can still eat in opulence in a smaller version of it. Try a bloody Mary here – it's been a specialty of the St. Regis for the better part of a century.
The lobby is enormous and posh – on a recent day it was filled with fresh flowers (allergy attack!).
The rooms are not huge, but the beds have quilted headboards and lots of pillows, making them sooo inviting! And once you can drag yourself out of them, it's only a couple of blocks to the White House, or, in the other direction, the Metro.
Nearby is the popular Georgia Brown's, where you can get gumbo, southern fried chicken or fried green tomatoes. It's cheaper than the Ardour, but still really nice.

I haven't been to the St. Regis since they have gone through all the renovations and upgrades, but it has always been a very classic hotel in the downtown Washington, DC area. Great in-house dining, private dining rooms, luxurious hotel suites... You can't beat it!Recommended for:Luxury Travelers
