The Stafford Hotel

16 - 18 St. James's Place, London SW1A 1NJ, England
6 reviews

The Stafford Hotel is one of our favorites as well as our correspondent's. With a charming courtyard lined with rooms in converted stables (two-part doors intact) and an old wine cellar filled with great vintages and some WW1 artifacts, and attentive, but not obsequious service, the Stafford is a hotel worth returning to again and again.

    Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Mr. Burrell was searching for a great, typically British restaurant recommendation and this is his top choice. "Why? Because it is not ridiculously expensive and all the recipes are taken from ancient English cook books. He also owns my local pub and the food there is wonderfully good value!"

The best Japanese BBQ restaurant I've been to. They make your food in front of you (not hibachi style though) and the best is the fish - I think sea bass. It's expensive so you need to really choose things that are worth the price.

Favourite tapas place in London. It's on the pricey side but well worth it! Try the iberico burgers - they're amazing!

Located in Soho. Good brasserie menu. Simple dishes uniquely prepared and presented. Every table has a special bell for ordering champagne. Art deco setting. Luxurious atmosphere. Intimate downstairs bar. Over priced drinks. Starters are also way over priced. But food and service are good. So go ahead and splurge.

The tasting menu with matching wines is a fantastic experience. The sommelier was superb and made the 7 course meal feel like a wonderful culinary journey. It doesn't come cheap but is comparable for restaurants with the same stars

    Social Eating House

0.57 mi from The Stafford Hotel

I am a big fan of Soho and I love walking around the area discovering new restaurants. I ran into Social Eating House in such a manner. I saw the establishment a couple of times. I could make out it was a restaurant, and was curious about it as there was no signage and it always seemed to be pretty ...

I took my nephew there for his birthday and we had a great experience. The services were definitely top notch. I told the restaurant about the occasion and as soon as we walked in, the person at the front desk said happy birthday to my nephew. They sent him a complimentary milkshake which made the young man really happy. They ...

    Wahaca - Covent Garden

0.74 mi from The Stafford Hotel

Wahaca is a Mexican style London chain, I think there are about 5 restaurants in total, created by Thomasina Miers. Sometimes I can be put off because somewhere is a chain, but you really shouldn't be with Wahaca. It serves fresh sustainable food and everything is really tasty. We went for the Wahaca selection in the Covent Garden restaurant. It's ...

    Ping Pong

Visited Ping Pong by chance and fell in love with it. The endless train of pots of steamed dishes travelled to our table. When opened they revealed delightful dim sums of many kinds. Loved by the whole family. Atmosphere is great and service good. Friends of ours visited the place later on our recommendation and loved it as well.

Get very excited if you happen to be invited here for the Krug Experience (minimum 6 people), provided you're not picking up the bill (it costs £450 each). Over 10 courses served at the chef's table, each matched by Krug champagne, you;ll be taking part in one of the ultimate expressions of ostentation.

Ottolenghi is good, but Nopi is better, in my opinion. I managed to make a booking for the downstairs communal table and I really like the elegant table setting. Nopi serves small dishes, which I love, because I can sample so many different flavors at one meal. The menu here seems to be changing very frequently if not daily. The ...

I love tapas and this is one of my favorite tapas restaurants. It is quite understated, so it is like a tapas bar in Barcelona. Everything I tried so far here was amazing and also I like the fact that they always have delicious specials. Every time I went, I tried something new. However, there are a couple of dishes ...

This is a super hidden cocktail bar in China Town London. The drinks are fab and the atmosphere is cozy. Not good for big groups as the tables are small but great for dates and one to one catch ups.

what is most enticing about this lovely restaurant is the beautiful display of delicious looking pastries encased on top of a white marble slab. We had thought this just to be another pastry shop (with an asian twist). Ha! there are more than meets the eye! It turns out Yauatcha is a great dim sum spot with dining areas both ...

    Pitt Cue Co.

0.52 mi from The Stafford Hotel

London in 2013 is going crazy for American imports like hamburgers and barbecue, and the Pitt Cue Co is deservedly at the head of the charred meat, um, queue. Simon Burrell of Our Man on the Ground calls it "mid-range in price and serves great ribs. Avoid busy times though as they do not take reservations."

Designed like a sex shop from the outside, this is a great restaurant (South American food). Very cool atmosphere underground. Definitely go to the one that takes reservations. (There's also a cafe across but that is not as good) Splash-the-cash type of place so share the plates!

Although a chain and you can find them throughout London, who cares?! Each one of them is slightly different in atmosphere and ambiance, but all of them are the same, they offer delicious tarts frangipans, and gateaus. I particularly like their location on Marylebone High Street, it's the atmosphere there. Take away and sit down service both available for your ...
