The Stafford Hotel

16 - 18 St. James's Place, London SW1A 1NJ, England
6 reviews

The Stafford Hotel is one of our favorites as well as our correspondent's. With a charming courtyard lined with rooms in converted stables (two-part doors intact) and an old wine cellar filled with great vintages and some WW1 artifacts, and attentive, but not obsequious service, the Stafford is a hotel worth returning to again and again.

The best Japanese BBQ restaurant I've been to. They make your food in front of you (not hibachi style though) and the best is the fish - I think sea bass. It's expensive so you need to really choose things that are worth the price.

The fantastic quality tapas at this tiny, personable restaurant in Soho is well worth the wait and the moderately expensive price. Whilst you wait to be seated at the counter (there are no reservations) you can enjoy a snack and drink and watch the action in the kitchen - before the real fun begins. The menu features Spanish classics, often ...

Been a few years but used to be my go-to place for pre-theatre dining in Covent garden. Oldest and one of the best French restaurants in London. Classy, intimate and warm.

Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour

0.56 mi from The Stafford Hotel

This is a super hidden cocktail bar in China Town London. The drinks are fab and the atmosphere is cozy. Not good for big groups as the tables are small but great for dates and one to one catch ups.

    Burger & Lobster

0.63 mi from The Stafford Hotel

So good... The queue is a pain but when you get in you understand why. There's only two lobster dishes (whole or roll) and a burger you can choose from the menu. I would definitely have the lobster as it's more rare to find and because the roll is amazing. The price per person is around 25-30 GBP at least. ...

I love tapas and this is one of my favorite tapas restaurants. It is quite understated, so it is like a tapas bar in Barcelona. Everything I tried so far here was amazing and also I like the fact that they always have delicious specials. Every time I went, I tried something new. However, there are a couple of dishes ...

The Breakfast Club - D'Arblay Street

0.65 mi from The Stafford Hotel

Love getting breakfast at this place. It's so bright and cheery and the staff is incredibly nice. It can get packed in the morning so either get there early or expect to wait for a bit. The Green Eggs and Ham was phenominal (eggs, chives, cream cheese, and ham) so yummy! And their smoothies are fresh and tasty. Near Oxford ...

The best sushi in London hands down. London is not known for its sushi, but Nobu is the only sushi place in London that can hold its own against a good California sushi restaurant. The scene is upscale, and the crowd decidedly stylish and cool. There are actually 2 Nobus in London. Park Lane is a nicer dining area, with ...

    Hard Rock Cafe

0.4 mi from The Stafford Hotel

It's worth stopping at the original Hard Rock Cafe, the first of the ever-expanding chain, which opened in this former Rolls Royce dealership in the 1970s. To any rock fan, this is a pilgrimage. It has an extensive memorabilia collection, the same great American diner-style food, and the original Eric Clapton guitar he offered to the owners before the Hard ...

This is a chain that offers all different sorts of Asian noodle dishes - udon noodle soups, ramens, fried noodles with prawns, etc. Rice dishes as well. It is all tasty and fresh. You don't have private tables - everyone sits along long benches. But it is inexpensive, heathy and very good for a quick lunch.

Ottolenghi is great for vegetarians - the choice of non-meat dishes is substantial and delicious - but there's something for everyone here. The way food is presented is almost as good it tastes.

    Hakkasan Hanway Place

My favorite restaurant in London, hands down. Every dish is beautifully presented and very tasty. The atmosphere is super hip, with high ceilings, lacquered wood and lighting that makes it feel intimate even when the place is packed. And the cocktails are great as well. Definitely get a reservation, though, as they fill up weeks in advance.

When you have that much bourbon, with burgers that banging in a bar above a strip club, you'll wonder how you lived without it. Welcome to MEATliquor, BarChick’s new best friend (and will be until it makes us fat). Wandered in here after failing to get seated at The Opera Tavern. Unpretentious, authentic, with signature octopus/calamari to savour. Couldn't tell if the cuisine was meant to be from Lombardy or the Veneto, but either would be credible.

Fresh, healthy, home cooked, vegetarian take out place. Not for everyone, I admit, but if you are into that sort of thing it is pretty amazing. there is also a small room with tables in the basement where you can eat in if you can find a place to sit.
