The Stafford Hotel

16 - 18 St. James's Place, London SW1A 1NJ, England
4.5
6 reviews

The Stafford Hotel is one of our favorites as well as our correspondent's. With a charming courtyard lined with rooms in converted stables (two-part doors intact) and an old wine cellar filled with great vintages and some WW1 artifacts, and attentive, but not obsequious service, the Stafford is a hotel worth returning to again and again.

Rich, chocolatey coffee without a hint of bitterness, courtesy of Square Mile beans and a deft barista touch. Service is friendly, and I hear the pastries are delicious. I saw the Portuguese egg tarts almost sell out...they appear to be the dessert to get!

I went mainly because a friend wouldn't stop talking about it. I'm happy to say she was just in her praise. It was a delightful place to stop for tea and cake. I love anything sweet and this place delivered.

Amaya is best described as high-end Indian fusion food. Traditional north-Indian flavors but prepared with a unique, modern twist and beautifully presented. Great date night spot. One of my favorite restaurants in London!

If you love Italian food, you will love Locanda Locatelli. Fresh ingredients and incredible cooking will make you want to never leave. Not cheap this spot can get fairly pricey, but with that comes the great people watching and celebrity spotting. One of my favourite things on the menu is the prawn and zucchini risotto - simple but incredible.

Great funky little place in SOHO. Likely some Stones on the record player! Handwritten menus that change up the delicious selections. Decent wine and beer selection. Paper thin sliced tomatoes with salt, olive oil and citrus vinegar. Possibly my favorite plate in London so far.

Cordon Bleu standard, British food - it that's not too much of a contradiction. I had their mushroom and ale pie, and had to guard it from my partner who would have eaten it all (and he doesn't even like beer). He had the tarragon sausages with mustard mash, which would have been excellent any other time, but weren't a ...

Claimed as London's oldest restaurant. Gives you a cozy, traditional feeling when you walk in. The menu is extremely British. It is nice if you want to experience something very British.

Not just this specific one, but the chain Nandos is great. Somewhat fast food this chicken joint is great for a quick easy dinner or lunch. Lebanese street food is the tag line for Yalla Yalla. This basically means gourmet hummus and falafel, with some interesting maze thrown in like chicken livers with pomegranate. The vine leaves and falafel are great as was the chili caipirinha I had. Worth a stop, won't break the bank, and is just a few steps from Oxford Circus.
