The Stafford Hotel is one of our favorites as well as our correspondent's. With a charming courtyard lined with rooms in converted stables (two-part doors intact) and an old wine cellar filled with great vintages and some WW1 artifacts, and attentive, but not obsequious service, the Stafford is a hotel worth returning to again and again.

There is a reason this hotel was recently voted the "Best In The World".
To give you an idea of the quality of service the former Chef Concierge was rated best in the world for 5 years running.
He is now the General Manager of the hotel and passed along the amazing skills he acquired to his staff.
This hotel is an experience in class and style.
It is tastefully decorated and beyond comfortable.
It is the ultimate British Experience but without the stuffiness you would expect.
There is nothing the staff can't do for you and always with a smile.
It is centrally located in St James Place but very private with an almost country feel to it.
I would give it another 5 stars if I could.

The Stafford Hotel is at the higher end of London hotels. However, it has a special charm, with some of the rooms surrounding a courtyard, with their original stable doors. They have an amazing wine cellar, where WWII soldiers hid out amongst the bottles (I got to attend a tasting and tour during the April 2010 volcano travel disruption). Service is top-notch, accomodations lovely, and it's super central, just near Green Park and a walk from Piccadilly and Soho.

Great service and classic elegance never go out of style and the Stafford has both in spades. When I was at the Stafford in September, I was struck by the subtle yet powerful improvements the hotel has made to itself in recent years. I was expecting the hotel to feel and look more modern, but it looked like the Stafford I know and love, only everything felt fresh and new and extra glossy. My father refuses to stay anywhere else when he visits London and I know that his loyalty has earned him his own monogrammed pillows, every time he visits and I love that they are willing to go above and beyond for their guests, in such a thoughtful and classically luxurious way. The food is great and the bar in the back is the perfect place for dignified drinks and delicious snacks.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers

The Stafford is a select English style boutique hotel set on a secluded street off of Green Park Tube Station in the center of St. James district in Central London. Originally, constructed in the early 20th Century, this newly renovated quintessentially English hotel features 105 guestrooms; each room is elegantly and individually furnished and features contemporary communication apparatus including Satellite TV, complimentary Wi-Fi Internet and Bose CD Player. Twelve (12) of the bedrooms and the stunning Guv'nor's Suite with its cathedral ceiling, are peacefully set off the main building on the property’s authentic 17th Century Carriage House cobbled mews. The American Restaurant offers a blend of French and modern British flavors on an elegant ambiance along with an impressive collection of global wines that are stored at the 350-year old restaurant’s wine cellar. Superb mixologists blend delicious classic Manhattans, Martini, Sidecarss, Vanderbilt Cocktails and Waldorfs at the American Bar. A standard work out studio is onsite, though guests are offered complimentary access to all facilities including treatment rooms, workout classes and an indoor heated swimming pool at the prominent ‘Third Space Fitness’ located mins away. The guest service is largely standard. The hotel is off of Pall Mall and close to St. James’s Park, Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, The National Gallery, major theaters, and the famous shopping streets including Regent, Piccadilly, Carnaby, Oxford and Bond streets.
