Pretentious is the word. Extremely Hollywood / Beverly Hills-type crowd. Shitty overpriced drinks. $20 cover. Douchey C-list celeb / wannabe models-central. That said, the rooftop bar is very nice. Great view, pool, etc. Go very infrequently but go at least once.

Awesome bar with silent film playing in the background, can be an older crowd sometimes, very expensive drinks, but all worth it because of the amazing view of downtown la, floating water beds in the water domes! No cover on weekdays and weekends there maybe cover and lines...

Room average from $200 and up per night for their basic room (300sq feet). The room is equipped with a queen bed and a glass encased shower. The design of the place is modern with a gray/yellow/white/black color scheme. My design complaint is that the TV is literally on the ground and it's a pain to watch when there's plenty of room on the wall to mount the TV.
When I checked in, the receptionist warned us that they are having a blackout after certain hours. No discount for this inconvenience!
I've stayed at many hotels and there are certain expectation when you're paying more than $200. When I was trying to sleep, all I can hear is my neighbors talking at 2am. You would assume that a hotel as nice as The Standard would have thicker walls. Compensation for this mishap? NO.
Valet parking is $15, self parking is $10...overnight parking is a whole other story. Additional to this parking fee, you'll have pay $18 more if you park overnight after certain amount of hours. It's $2 every 15mins and max for $18. Big boo!
After all the disappointment, I'm giving them a one star only for their comfortable bed, clean sheets, and clean towels. I think this place is a big rip-off and geared for travelers that want to experience hip LA.

Must visit the rooftop pool bar when ever I'm in LA. This place is so much fun. There are bed shaped chairs for you to relax in (or maybe they are just beds). They are in these funny red plastic tents. I don't love the whole upside down lettering/branding though, but one can get over that easily.

Not as hip as the sister hotel in Hollywood, The Standard in downtown can hold it's own. There's a cool lobby and lounge where you can shoot some pool if you're inclined. But the real action happen on the outdoor bar / patio deck which looks up to the amazing LA skyscrapers.
Sometimes I feel like I'm in New York being surrounded by the skyscrapers in that way. It's a surreal feeling that you don't normally get in downtown LA.

My favorite hotel in LA. I love the people, the pool, and the breakfasts.
I like that it's away from the madness of Sunset. The staff is nice and I dealt with management once after a computer power outage.
We waited for 2 hours to check in and the hotel did not offer a formal apology.
I wrote them a letter and it was dismissed.
But for the most part, I still love this hotel. The ambiance and the people is worth overlooking that bad incident.

The place is more modern, hip, trendy, etc etc etc. All the things that you'd want to see in Los Angeles minus the stuffiness of the other local hotels. The suites are nice. I like them, though I do have to add that if you're a touch shy in front of your traveling companions then perhaps you want to get your own room.. other wise a room here with the right people can be very very fun. Though I'm a touch put off by the almost laxidasical concern for hygiene here, though it has more to do with the patrons as opposed to the staff. And if you really need to know more about what I'm talking about... think party on the roof top in the pool/bar area... emphasis on bar area.

The Standard has some definite pros.
-Rooftop bar/pool is fantastic and a great place to go out at night
-Rooms are really nice.
-A bit pricey
I would highly recommend a night of partying there, staying in the hotel, waking up in the rooftop bar, and then getting a peanut butter and chocolate sandwich. Fantastic.
