The rooftop bar is an evening hang-out for models, wanna-bees and lookie-loos, like me (the latter!) A gorgeous renovation of the modernist building just steps from the downtown library in a neighborhood that's safe to walk into the wee hours. The drinks are creative and expensive, as is the cover cost unless you stay at the hotel. Great urban fun and close to so much.

snooty places like the rooftop at the standard is a bit too pretentious for me.
On fridays and Saturday you actually have to pay 20 buckeroos just to get up there..kind of unheard of in DTLA bars! Not to mention parking for another $10 ! We were lucky to be there slightly early to get free parking ...
So What if you have a pool upstairs! It can't even be used! ...its all purely for the sake of feeling "grand"! If your looking for the view that they def do have, you might as well go to places like the Perch!
My friend did get a penthouse suite to celebrate his big bday bash - though the penthouse suite was spacious their restroom setup was kind of weird! Btw, having a suite only warrants you 2 bracelet pass to get up to the roof top.

Standard hotel is a must visit for visitors to downtown LA, and the cafe is very retro cool- feels like a yellow space pod from the 70's. Menu changes every 6 months, I really enjoyed my coffee and turkey club sandwich. The fries were super addictive!Recommended for:

Pretty much the only boutique hotel in downtown LA (not counting the Japanese-style small hotels in Little Tokyo), the Standard is a tongue-in-cheek, whimsical crash pad for partiers and business travelers both. The skyline-view rooftop bar is extremely popular, especially for happy hour and on weekends. Rooms are priced by size (XS to XL) and have artsy, mod touches that are way fun.Recommended for:

The Standard is known for its sleek minimal design, using geometric shapes and select bright colors amidst its favorite, white, without losing comfort. The Downtown location is great because of its location. The rooftop pool has a stunning view of the city, as you are right in the middle of it all!Recommended for:

I haven't stayed at The Standard, but I've partied on the rooftop plenty of times, and it is great! Great view of the city, awesome pool, a cool crowd...all in all, a great place to have drinks day or night.Recommended for:

One of my favorite places to hang out at. The rooftop is really cool. There's a neat mix of people here. If you're a guest then you can go to the rooftop without paying to get in. The rooms are nice and spacious. Great place to hangout with friends. It's hip to be cool or something. Check out the Standard in Downtown next time you're looking for a place to stay.Recommended for:

The Standard Hotel is a cheeky hotel that's great for partiers. Because of its location, there are a lot of business travelers who stay here as well.
The set up of the rooms is whimsical but not necessary the most functional. If you want an unique hotel experience, however, this is the place to check out.
Valet parking is $15 and self parking is $10. Make sure to check out the rooftop bar!Recommended for:

Great deal. Modern hotel, cool room design, beautiful rooftop bar & pool, central location + inexpensive 24/7 valet service. All for the same price as a Best Western. Not bad! Could do without the uppity hipsters manning the concierge though ..

This place has an amazing rooftop lounge and bring your trunks if you want to swim. The last time I went for a dip a few weeks ago, the water was murky. They usually charge a $20 cover when the rooftop turns into a lounge with music, but get there in the afternoon or evening and they'll give you a wristband and you can leave and get back in for free!

Pretentious is the word. Extremely Hollywood / Beverly Hills-type crowd. Shitty overpriced drinks. $20 cover. Douchey C-list celeb / wannabe models-central. That said, the rooftop bar is very nice. Great view, pool, etc. Go very infrequently but go at least once.

Awesome bar with silent film playing in the background, can be an older crowd sometimes, very expensive drinks, but all worth it because of the amazing view of downtown la, floating water beds in the water domes! No cover on weekdays and weekends there maybe cover and lines...

Room average from $200 and up per night for their basic room (300sq feet). The room is equipped with a queen bed and a glass encased shower. The design of the place is modern with a gray/yellow/white/black color scheme. My design complaint is that the TV is literally on the ground and it's a pain to watch when there's plenty of room on the wall to mount the TV.
When I checked in, the receptionist warned us that they are having a blackout after certain hours. No discount for this inconvenience!
I've stayed at many hotels and there are certain expectation when you're paying more than $200. When I was trying to sleep, all I can hear is my neighbors talking at 2am. You would assume that a hotel as nice as The Standard would have thicker walls. Compensation for this mishap? NO.
Valet parking is $15, self parking is $10...overnight parking is a whole other story. Additional to this parking fee, you'll have pay $18 more if you park overnight after certain amount of hours. It's $2 every 15mins and max for $18. Big boo!
After all the disappointment, I'm giving them a one star only for their comfortable bed, clean sheets, and clean towels. I think this place is a big rip-off and geared for travelers that want to experience hip LA.

Must visit the rooftop pool bar when ever I'm in LA. This place is so much fun. There are bed shaped chairs for you to relax in (or maybe they are just beds). They are in these funny red plastic tents. I don't love the whole upside down lettering/branding though, but one can get over that easily.

Not as hip as the sister hotel in Hollywood, The Standard in downtown can hold it's own. There's a cool lobby and lounge where you can shoot some pool if you're inclined. But the real action happen on the outdoor bar / patio deck which looks up to the amazing LA skyscrapers.
Sometimes I feel like I'm in New York being surrounded by the skyscrapers in that way. It's a surreal feeling that you don't normally get in downtown LA.

My favorite hotel in LA. I love the people, the pool, and the breakfasts.
I like that it's away from the madness of Sunset. The staff is nice and I dealt with management once after a computer power outage.
We waited for 2 hours to check in and the hotel did not offer a formal apology.
I wrote them a letter and it was dismissed.
But for the most part, I still love this hotel. The ambiance and the people is worth overlooking that bad incident.
