What makes this place stand out from other luxury hotels in the Midtown area is its rooftop bar. Top of the Strand has fantastic views of the Empire State Building and the majestic NYC skyline - and the best part is that there's no cover charge. After a long, hard day of exploring the city by foot, this bar and lounge is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a few cocktails.

The rooms themselves are pretty well-priced for the luxury they offer. I'm a sucker for rainfall-style showers and 100 percent Egyptian cotton linens. And the higher you go up (there are 21 floors), the better the view gets. Besides being just around the corner from the Empire State Building, the Strand is in walking distance from Herald Square (great for shopping), Times Square (get your Broadway theater fix here!) and - my favorite - Stumptown (for the best cold-brewed coffee you've ever had).

Though the gym is fairly minimal (just a few treadmills and elliptical machines) and there's no pool, the rooms are stylish, modern and comfortable. For the price and location, this luxury hotel is a pretty good deal.

The location of this hotel is perfect. It's close enough to Times Square without actually being there. The front desk was very friendly and helpful when asked questions about where to eat in the area. The room I stayed in did have a heating issue. We called down to the front desk and they were able to fix the issue very quickly. The room was larger than most rooms in NYC. I would stay here again.

Very nice hotel. Very stylish, modern decor, very good service. The fitness center is a bit minimalistic, although I've seen much worse.
