Tips to avoid standing in a long line for tickets. Thanks!
Go very early! :) We started at St. Peter's arriving as soon as they opened, even going up to the top for the views. Then we had an early lunch before heading to the museum. There was a bit of a line but it moved very quickly. Going around lunch time seemed to help. Just an FYI - the Sistine Chapel is part of the museum and it takes quite a while to get to it, so allow plenty of time.
Lisa, thank your time to help out. I appreciate the advice very much! Larry of San Francisco
Here is my best way to see the entire Vatican without major line standing in a single day.
Pre-order tickets online for the museums for sometime around lunchtime. This will be the second part of your day.
The first part will be the basilica. You can pre-order a tour and skip the line, but if you don't want a tour (which is quite expensive) just come around 8:30 and the line will be very short and fast.
Notice that the only access to the gardens is in a pre-ordered tour so if you want them add it to your schedule.
If your make the mistake of booking the museums for the early morning and then go around noon to the basilica without an ordered tour you just might find yourself in a mile long line.
