I wasn't too sure about this place when I first arrived, walking up it looked a bit shady from the outside but it turned out to be a pretty good place to stay. I stayed in one of the female only dorms. It was two rooms with four beds, shared bathroom and your own private kitchen! Pretty damn good for a hostel! The staff were nice. The lockers in the rooms didn't quite work but fortunately I was bunking with some nice girls. Other than that it was all pretty good. I made some good friends there and had a great time during my stay!

We stayed at the Waikiki Beachside Hostel in Jan of 2013 and booked a semi private room which is shared with two other people. (four people total) The semi private room sleeps two, and outside of that room sleeps another two people.
What I like about the Waikiki Beachside Hostel is that it is about a block from the beach so you could easily walk there. In addition to that, it's right at the end of Kalakaua Avenue which is probably the main strip of street that everyone in Waikiki visits and walks on. There are tons of things on that street from Honolulu Cookie Company to a bunch of other stores. Everyone's out on that street. Even the Duke Kahanamoku Statue and the Waikiki Aquarium is near this hostel! Also, right near this hostel is another good bar/breakfast place with a great view (Lulu's Waikiki).
The first day we got to the hostel we told them we had a car so they gave us the key to open the gate to get into the parking spaces. This hostel only has about four or five parking spaces so I was always worried every night when we came home about getting a parking space since it is a first come first serve availability. Lucky for us, it was never a problem. There is a $25 deposit you leave for getting the gate key but you get it back when you check out and is $7 a day to park.
When we checked in, they gave us some sheets and gave us bracelets keys that scanned us into our rooms. The bracelet keys were neat! Anyway we got to our room and had to put the sheets in our bed ourselves which wasn't a problem. The room was nice and it was a bonus that the flat screen TV was in our room. That and it also had AC! The room is also lockable so you don't have to worry about anything being stolen.
The bathroom was shared with two other people who were in the room with us. There were always different people in the room so people only stayed there for a few days before they checked out and traveled to another city. The bathrooms were not bad except for the broken blinds on the windows so you were worried about people seeing you naked in the bathroom depending on where you stood. O.O If you're standing directly under the shower you should be fine and they won't be able to see you.
I liked my stay at the Waikiki Beachside Hostel. It was nice that there was a laundry machine here to wash our clothes since we were there for a week. And, we had no problems staying here. No bed bugs either. I would recommend this place to friends and would stay here again if I'm ever in Waikiki.

Two things make this place a great choice for true hostel-lovers: a location just around the corner from Waikiki Beach and a very friendly, laidback atmosphere. Fancy, it isn’t—a converted cinderblock walkup with simple furnishings, it feels more like a basic dorm. But the selection of rooms is pleasantly surprising, from high-traffic bunk bed rooms to semi-private rooms, all with housekeeping, bathrooms and full kitchens. After sunset, the hub of activity is the Chinese-lantern-laced outdoor café. Although it quiets down after 10 p.m., the hostel’s open 24/7, with secure features such as card keys and a no-visitor policy. Guests of all ages stay at Waikiki Beachside Hostel, but the crowd tends toward the mellow 20-something sojourner.

Unbeatable for the budget conscious traveler. The property features lots of colorful, locally painted murals and art throughout. Thirty-day limited stay. Everything you would need is on the premises including daily housekeeping. Things are outdated and worn, but the large dorm room was clean, with full kitchenette, older cable television, and a separate, closed-off bedroom. Small dorms also available. Storage room and locker rentals, coin operated laundry, ATM, recreational gear rentals, discount tours, secure parking and no curfew. Downstairs has a very spacious, comfy communal bar area where you can make friends, enjoy big screen televisions and purchase an inexpensive, home-cooked meal every evening. Very friendly/knowledgeable staff can help with local attractions and best deals. But the area is rather noisy with lots going on, so keep this in mind if you want a more quiet vacation.
This easygoing hostel offers a host of amenities, including the Beachside Internet Cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner; an outdoor lounge area; 24/7 high-speed Internet access (fees apply); a 24-hour front desk; daily housekeeping; storage; moped, boogie board, and surfboard rentals; a coin-operated laundry; covered parking; an ATM machine; and more. Wi-Fi, Continental breakfast, local calls from in-room phones, and rentals such as irons, hairdryer, and board games are free. Happenings range from free seasonal parties to live entertainment bands, movie nights, and ping pong tournaments.
This backpacker-vibe hostel features more than 150 beds in shared rooms for long or short term stays. Room amenities include daily housekeeping, fresh bed linens, towels (fee), and lockers. No curfew.
