The Westin Bund Center is best known among Shanghai residents for its over the top champagne brunch served every Sunday at The Stage restaurant. Not to be overshadowed, the hotel itself also provides a notable range of luxurious amenities—from a large heated indoor pool to free wireless access in every room. Still, it is hard to compete with a an all-day eating affair that includes sashimi stations, a chocolate fountain, decadent foie gras and a deluge of champagne of the likes I have seldom seen before. My advice would be to stuff yourself silly, enjoy a long afternoon nap in your well-appointed room and then head out to see the sites, situated just a few short blocks from the hotel.

Nice hotel with all of the amenities you’d expect from the Westin. Crowd seems to be lots of western business folks, mainland Chinese, and tourists. Beautiful big lobby with 3 or 4 floors of restaurants, gym, shops, and bars looking down on to the center stage. “The Stage” is the largest restaurant in the hotel and is where breakfast and brunch are served, there is also a pretty spectacular Champagne Brunch on Sundays… make sure to reserve ahead of time as it is quite popular and well worth it. Nice sized gym, the yoga studio is a bit small but the fact that they offer almost daily yoga and pilates classes more then makes up for it. Lots of windows, bright and friendly rooms with nice views of the city, set a few blocks off the Bund, and really great bathroom stuff, lotions, shampoos and everything. My only concern was that the concierge desk didn’t seem to have an extensive knowledge of the city nor did the woman I interacted with have a strong command of English, but on the whole a very positive experience.

Walking into the Westin lobby you feel like you’re walking into a lively and welcoming hotel. Guest reception is to either side, and a lobby café in front of you. The Westin boasts several different restaurants, so whatever you’re in the mood for, they’ve got you covered. Their Sunday Brunch has made a name for itself amongst the Shanghai residents as a place to come and eat with your friends and family, and enjoy live music and a show. The Aperativo at Prego on Thursday’s is not to be missed either! The guest rooms are spacious, thoughtful and everything you would expect from a five star establishment. The fitness center is small, but well lit and modern. A few blocks from the Bund, and a few minutes to Nanjing Pedestrian street give this hotel a great location. If you’re craving something sweet, there’s a great frozen yogurt place downstairs called Anna Banana; perfect on a Shanghai summer day. Only Four Stars because we had trouble with the concierge (denied a service), and we could overhear the conversations of others that we having difficulties as well (acquiring the contact info for a venue). Bonus points for giving us a handy pack of the room toiletries since we liked the white tea lotion so much!

Excellent facilities, nice decor in a good location. The staff provided great service and were helpful when asked. The only downside was some of the room service, but not unexpected. I ordered eggs benedict that looked like mini versions but overcooked and crunchy. Almost seemed like what you might expect astronaut food to be.

The hotel lobby/lounge has a nice cozy feel and a good place to catch up with friends in between meetings.
