I have stayed at the Westin at the Tabor Center around 50 times now. It is my first choice in downtown Denver hotels. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and well suited for comfort. Located right beside the 16th Street Mall and in a perfect downtown location for pretty much any need. Within walking distance to the hottest clubs in town. If you are looking for a great, affordable downtown experience, look no further than the Westin!

This Westin has been rated as a Four diamond hotel by AAA the last four years in a row.

It has a great location, right off the 16th Street Mall, and adjoining the Tabor Center shopping mall, in downtown Denver. With the 16th Street Mall free buses, you have your choice of about 15 blocks of shopping and eating free and just off your doorstep.

There is a Starbucks concession inside at street level. There are no special Club level floors like many other Westin or Starwwod properties (usual the top floors) because there is no Club Lounge (elite lounge, for Platinum SPG members only).

The next best thing is the 4th floor. The rooms are fairly large, and they each have a huge patio available to them, with 2 chairs and 2 chaise lounges each. The 4th flooris also where the pool and gym are, so you are all set if you get this floor.

The Westin beds, in fact most of the Starwood brand hotels' beds, are the best in the business. THis one was plush, with all white linens and coverings, very crips and finely thread counted. 4 pillows and a roll and you will find comfort and a good night sleep.

The parking is a bit confusing. The Valet oarking is $26/day with in-out. The Self parking is underneath the hotel but part of a private parking garage. So you get a $19 overnight voucher card as a guest, but you have to pay up to $16 (at $8/hour) for the day parking rate. And there is no in and out. It took the desk 10 minutes to try and explain this to me, and I still didn't get it.

My first set of keys (I always ask for 2) didn't work. So I had to go down and get 2 more. Not something you want to do when you're dead tired, and confused from the 10 minute parking explanation. As a Gold member, I often get free water, or even a welcome snack or something. Not here. Water is $4.50. Internet costs you, too. $12.95.

I hate upscale hotels that nickle and dime you.

This place was pretty dead, the lounge was deserted.

If AAA thinks charging a lot for full service accomodations and nickel and diming you for everything is worth 4 Diamonds, I will have to rethink their recommendations. The service that I did encounter was pleasant, but I hate paying/waiting for expensive Valet service when I am on business, and I hate being charged for Internet and water, too.

My Group Association rate was $189.00. Where is Embassy Suites?

It’s all about the view at the Westin Tabor. A great downtown hotel that had the fortune of being built on the south side, where skyscrapers were considerably restricted. Just about every room has a phenomenal view, though clearly, the higher up you are the better; rooms on the south or west side have mountain views too. The hotel itself is modern in style with lots of chocolate browns and blues to set it off. Guest rooms have pillow top mattresses (ahh…) and high thread count sheets (ahh…) with down comforters (ahh…); the amenities are high end, as you’d expect. There’s also a rooftop lap pool that runs from inside to outside (you literally have to pass under a glass divider to swim between the sides); again, the views are gorgeous from here too. All in all, a comfortable, high end hotel, in the middle of downtown. (Did I mention the views?)

One of the many nice things about the Westin is that it’s not boxed in by other tall buildings, despite being right in the middle of downtown. There’s an urban park on one side, and the other side is mostly zoned for smaller buildings, which gives the rooms here better views and more natural light than at most other downtown hotels. The rooms are spacious and lovely, with rich carpeting and furniture, and of course those great views. There’s a rooftop pool, open year round, and partly indoors and partly out. There’s plenty of deck space and lounge chairs up there, though a few more umbrellas would be nice as the sun can be intense. Some fun facts: President Obama (at the time, still candidate Obama) stayed at the Westin during the Democratic National Convention in 2008, and the nearby D&F clock tower was the tallest building west of the Mississippi when it was built in 1910-11; ask about tours and events there.
