I write this review with the fondest of memories. For my birthday, he surprised me with an extravagantly planned vacation to Milan and Venice, and we stayed in the most gorgeous hotels because he had Platinum status.

After we took the train from Milan to Venice, we walked through Venice and found our destination. The rooms here were really nice (at least the upgraded one we had), and had an amazing view of the Grand Canal. There's plenty of shopping nearby and also tons of amazing architecture within walking distance (well, everything in Venice is walking distance).

All in all, super romantic and absolutely blew me away.

Being in Venice during the Carnival is an experience to be remembered for a lifetime. Staying at the Westin Hotel Europa & Regina during the Carnival is an added bonus. The hotel is located a few steps away from the Piazza San Marco where a lot of Carnival-related activities happen. You can go to your hotel to rest at any point and then come back and continue to enjoy or participate in the Carnival activities. It’s a very luxury hotel – with all the amenities you can expect in such place, beautiful and inviting, cozy in a way, and at the same time so spectacular that you couldn’t think of a better place to stay in this amazing city.
The hotel is located right on the Grand Canal. The most memorable moment was when a water taxi arrived very early in the morning to the hotel door on the canal to take us to the airport – we stepped right into a boat and were taken away through the sleepy canals (right under the Bridge of Sighs) enjoying serene views of the canals and streets while everyone was still sleeping after a late Carnival night.

Another one of the big hotels along the Grand Canal, it boast equal palazzo themed decor. Great location not far from the square. The fact that it is a Westin actually is a negative point as it seems to want to attract more of an American businessman clientele on holiday using his airmiles to get his family included in the holiday. And while it has luxury styled amenities the big tourist this clientele brings in detracts from making it a proper luxury stay.

The Westin is tucked in a little bit, but the actual location is pretty convenient to San Marco. There's also a bunch of boutiques very close by.

Admittedly, I have no idea how much it costs to stay here. I booked the room using points. Since I had Platinum status, we had a great room that overlooked the Grand Canal. When we got in to the room, there was also a tray of snacks and a chilled bottle of wine. Great way to start the vacation in Venice.

The room itself was a bit old. But that's to be expected in Venice. We found our room to be clean and the bed was plenty plush since it was a Heavenly bed.

Fine old European Hotel. They had no canal view rooms when we check in so they gave us a Junior Suite (which means something TOTALLY different in Europe). It needed paint, and an overall facelift (in 2004), but it had good character and was central to everything in Venice. Then again, EVERYTHING is central to everything else in Venice. Would stay here again if I had to, but would definitely do one of the other two 6* Starwoods if I had a choice.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel on our honeymoon. My brother-in-law treated us to our stay as a wedding present. We got a fabulous corner room, giving us a 180 degree view of the canal. The room service was expensive but wonderful, and we found the staff very helpful. We also enjoyed having a nightcap in the bar downstairs that offered live piano and nice views. All in all an unforgettable experience.

Wow, this place is so NOT worth the cost of a 5 star hotel. We used Starwood points to stay here (thank god) because aside from an elegant interior, this place is the worst. It's located in a hard to find spot -- off a courtyard that has nothing in it (feels like a dead-end). The staff was rude and snobby and offered nothing in the way of concierge services. Everything on the menu is extraordinarily expensive, even for Venice. Worst of all, they screwed up and gave us two rooms located far apart from each other which doesn't work when traveling with young children. They suggested that we, the parents, split up into different rooms. Not exactly 5 star customer service.
