You can't get any closer to Union Square staying here. It's right across the street! Thus, this hotel is very convenient to all the action in and around Union Square. During my stay, the hotel provided friendly and accommodating customer service, premium fitness facilities, and a heavenly bed. However, the hotel needs a renovation. It felt old, creaky, and a bit shabby. As a Westin hotel, I expected a higher level of commitment to keeping the rooms up-to-date.

Stayed here on my first trip to San Francisco. The place is very conveniently located of course, on Union Square and just in front of it is the tram stop. From the outside the hotel looks majestic with its scenic lifts and all. The breakfast was very expensive. room was ok, felt old, and at the time no wireless. Have since then always chosen another hotel from the same region.

The only hotel in San Francisco's famous Union Square, the Westin St. Francis offers world-class luxury on top of one of the best locations in the city. It's surrounded by incredible shopping, restaurants and is just a short walk from Chinatown, the Financial District and the Moscone Convention Center. There's even a cable car stop right outside the front door.

You couldn't have a better location but room quality really varies and some units are in desperate need of renovation. Very popular for conferences and can be insanely crowded / overrun. A good choice if it is on fire sale but, otherwise, other nearby properties offer similar convenience with less hassle.Recommended for:Business Travelers

True this hotel is in a great location, but it is badly in need of a renovation. Rooms felt shabby and run down - not what I expect from a Westin hotel. If you prefer Starwood, the St Regis and the W are not far away and are much nicer hotels.

My mom and I stayed at this hotel the night before we walked in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Our (brief) stay was divine! The beds were very comfortable, the instant coffee in the room was drinkable, and the bathroom was lovely. The room was so comfortable, it was very difficult to respond to our 4 AM wake-up call!
Check in was easy; the lobby is gorgeous and the staff was very friendly. The staff's name tags stated their home countries/states and their hobbies. The staff member who helped us was from England, and loved travel.
The elevator ride is scary- in a totally fantastic way. The elevator is positioned on the side of the building, and the outside wall is glass. We got to watch Union Square fall below us as we rose up to our hotel room. Like I said- it was fantastic, but scary for those who are afraid of heights like me.

This is the tale of two hotels: the Westin St. Francis "historic" section and the Westin St. Francis "tower" section.
Like ye-olde San Francisco? Stay in the historic section. Small rooms where everything is reminiscent of an era gone by.
Like modern tech-savvy San Francisco? Stay in the tower section. Generous rooms with great views, modern decor, and fancy elevators.
I had a one-night stay on the 28th floor of the tower section. Above the ~20th floor, rooms facing Union Square have a view of the Bay Bridge, the ice skating rink, and Macy's. Amenities are the Westin-standard and the rooms are clean. Gold and Platinum members get 4pm checkout, so this is the ideal place for a Saturday night stay to support some leisurely Union Square shopping.

The Westin St. Francis is a wonderful hotel. It has beautiful architecture and is conveniently located in the Union Square area. There is plenty of things to do in the area. Plenty of shipping, dining, and bars in the area. The staff is very kind and they make sure you have an excellent stay. The rooms were also larger than I had expected. I have gotten accustomed to the large sized Vegas rooms only to be disappointed when I realize that not all hotel rooms are that large. However, the Westin St Francis rooms are not bad at all. I had booked too rooms and was lucky enough to get adjoining rooms. This was more than enough space for the 8 people in our party. Everyone was able to comfortably sleep with out feeling like sardines. Our rooms were also located on the top floor near the elevators. We had a great view. This Westin is not a bad place to stay. If you appreciate architecture this is the hotel for you. However, if you want a more modern style room then the Westin on Market might be a better fit.
Note: Parking is also very expensive anywhere in the city. We found the best option for parking was the Sutter Stockton Garage. Its only about 2 blocks away from the hotel. If you don't mind walking this a an awesome option. Unless you want to pay $50/night at the hotel.
