I love the classic feel of the Westin St. Francis, although some of the rooms in the older towers are TINY, so I'd recommend the newer highrise towers if you can't get one of the big rooms overlooking Union Square. Speaking of Union Square, you can't beat the location for shopping, dining, etc. Tip: Get up early and take the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf when there's no line!

I can't comment too much on the the rooms there....but I can comment on the ballrooms there since I had gone to a large black tie affair there. It was large...large does not do it justice.....but the hall of mirrors was a nice touch and the food wasn't that bad. I do like Minna downstairs and the rest of it was so sososososososo.... Austere! Though Austere with a passion for taste. In retrospect, it seems that the rooms are a hit or miss type thing, but again I can't comment on that too much. The beds were nice! I do remember having a great time in the hotel otherwise. Valet parking was great, the service was great, everything else was great.

In Union Square and housing the Michael Mina Clock Bar along with several other dining options, the famous Westin St. Francis is more than just a place to lay your head. The hotel is smack dab in the middle of Union Square with a cable car line directly outside, so you're just a few minutes by foot or cable car to dozens of San Francisco's best restaurants.Recommended for:

Gayle and I were privileged to attend a formal wedding at the Westin St. Francis. It was held on the 32nd Floor and had all the trappings (and view) that you would expect and enjoy. The lucky bride is the daughter of one of Gayle's good friends, and both her and the groom were quite a catch. It was a beautiful wedding and a great send off for this lovely couple. But as our marriage isn't our first rodeo, Gayle and I couldn't help but wonder what else all this wedding money could buy.
There were several highlights including:
- Watching the groom really choke up when he repeated his very heartfelt vows.
- Listening to the best Best Man speech ever! His mention of having the Bachelor Party in Colonial Williamsburg brought down the house.
- Great service and attentive "care and feeding" from Westin St. Francis Staff.
Best of all and early in the event, Lois asked Gayle and me whether we were any surprises since we were just married. Our answer came on the Dance Floor and how much we enjoyed moving together in harmony as the music played.....

Classic grand hotel located conveniently on Union Square. It is close to shopping, eating, site seeing, and the cable car. The Clock Bar near the grand front entrance is a great spot to catch up over specialty cocktails.Recommended for:

Attended the official YELP Unwrapped! Holiday Party at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco with fellow Yelpers! The event was huge. At least 3000 Yelpers attended tonight to enjoy free food and drinks from many restaurants, including Espetus, Tryptich, Urban Tavern, and more! Tonight's event was a foodie lover's paradise!
Arrived in line at 6:30 PM, and was able to get in by 7:20ish. The YELP staffers were very efficient and always on hand for questions. Unlike a clubbing line, things were very well coordinated and organized. Once we got into the hotel, it was time to eat! The lines were long, but there was plenty of food to go around for the early birds. The drinks were pretty good too, with a lot of them mixed with Honest Tea. My favorite dishes of the night: the roasted chestnut soup, the pumpkin moose, spareribs, and multi-flavored gelato! To top it off also, there were some erasable boards where we were able to write our favorite foodie quotes: "I don't eat to live - I LIVE to EAT!", "If it looks nasty, it must taste great!", and "It's my duty to please my belly!" The event was totally fun and opened my eyes to the different types of foods! Looking forward to next year's YELP Holiday Party!Recommended for:

The only hotel in San Francisco's famous Union Square, the Westin St. Francis offers world-class luxury on top of one of the best locations in the city. It's surrounded by incredible shopping, restaurants and is just a short walk from Chinatown, the Financial District and the Moscone Convention Center. There's even a cable car stop right outside the front door.Recommended for:

You couldn't have a better location but room quality really varies and some units are in desperate need of renovation. Very popular for conferences and can be insanely crowded / overrun. A good choice if it is on fire sale but, otherwise, other nearby properties offer similar convenience with less hassle.Recommended for:

Westin St. Francis may have the best hotel location in all of San Francisco. Directly facing Union Square, it’s front side forms one of the four wall of buildings enclosing the park. During Christmas, it’s even more beautiful as the building is illuminated in a dramatic fashion such that it serves as a wonderful backdrop for photos of the Union Square Christmas tree. Within the hotel is the restaurant Michael Mina, reputedly one of the best restaurants in the city that rivals Gary Danko and The Dining Room at Ritz-Carlton.
I came here once for a large party within their banquet rooms. The space is large and the hotel staff were very friendly. Everything was clean and I really enjoyed my experience. They did a great job keeping a large crowd in check.
I can’t comment on the rooms as I’ve never stayed here. I can only share my experiences about their events room and location.Recommended for:

True this hotel is in a great location, but it is badly in need of a renovation. Rooms felt shabby and run down - not what I expect from a Westin hotel. If you prefer Starwood, the St Regis and the W are not far away and are much nicer hotels.Recommended for:
