The Westin Taipei isn’t particularly convenient to transportation (several minutes’ walk to the nearest station) or located in a particularly interesting neighborhood (all office buildings nearby). Service was very slow. I had to wait a long time at the front desk and the resulting service was extremely lackluster. There is a special “welcome drink” in the lobby for guests, which was kind of a nice touch (considering the wait time). The afternoon tea set at the Elite Concept Café is nice, but again—very slow service. The beds are very comfortable, and the rooms and amenities all meet the minimum for what you’d expect at this type of international business hotel, but none exceed expectation. For what you pay to stay here, you could do better. Probably any other hotel in this class and price range would be a better bet.Recommended for:

It’s your basic sterile business hotel. Good but expensive breakfast, clean and nice rooms, but small lobby. I like lobbies large enough to hold impromptu meetings without having others listening in on my conversation, but you won’t get that with Westin Taipei.Recommended for:

The Westin strikes me as an extremely generic hotel without any particular strengths. It’s solid but nothing special. There are lots of restaurants, and its buffet restaurant is pretty good. The movie theater is cool, maybe the only special thing about the hotel. It’s probably the only hotel with its own movie theater. Compared to other hotels in this class, its location is not particularly convenient, and there’s nothing special in the neighborhood. There’s a bit of a walk to get to the MRT station, and there’s nothing nearby in terms of shopping or view. Its event facilities are overpriced. My company used to hold a lot of events at The Westin, but we’ve been going there less and less due to the overpriced and poor service.
