Big and sleek, the Wyndham Grand (formerly Hotel 71), offers plenty for those looking to stay close to the action, or those who just want great views of downtown and the river. The way the river cuts through Chicago creates a valley of glass skyscrapers and water, a concrete canyon of sorts. It’s one of the best views in town. Inside, the hotel features alternating cream-and-dark colors, creating a modern, elegant look that doesn’t try too hard. Rooms stick to a beige color-scheme, and also offer a good amount of room for you to stretch out and relax in. As a bonus, there are a lot of nightlife options available just across the river.

My favorite part of Chicago is the riverfront, so this hotel on Wacker Drive earned major points before I even walked in. I've passed by in the summer, and they always have a lively crowd outside on their beautiful patio, but today it was freezing cold and there was definitely no one hanging around out front. Inside, though, it was warm and inviting. This isn't your grandmother's hotel lobby. It's sleek and subtly lit with down tempo electronica playing quietly. The staff at the front desk was welcoming and attentive.
The rooms are lovely, though not quite as striking as the lobby. Lots of clean lines and soothing colors. I was told that several of the upper floors have recently been renovated (marble everything, they said), but I didn't get a chance to check those out. Be sure to ask at the front desk for a river view! (It will be a $20-25 upgrade from the city view in person, but around $45 online, I'm told.)

Great hotel in downtown Chicago within walking distance to wonderful restaurants and lots of shopping! (It's only a block off Michigan Ave.) It's very "urban sophisticate" with clean lines and contemporary accommodations. The views are fantastic too.
