If you're staying in Santa Monica, you don't want to skip out on shopping! A short walk from Santa Monica Beach, Third Street Promenade is one of the trendiest, popular and large open-air shopping mall in the area! Filled with high-end boutique stores (e.g. Banana Republic, Kitson, Tokidoki, Louis Vuitton, etc.) as well as other stores (Forever 21) and restaurants. If you care to grab dinner and a movie, there's theaters in sectioned areas of the mall. Or, grab a few drinks at one of the lounges or bars with someone or mingle a little with the locals! If you're lucky, celebrities who drop in on an occasion if they're in the area, shop and eat at one of the local restaurants. Quite often, they have entertainment events held here. So keep yourself posted on their website for more information.

Very quirky and funky - strange characters roam about, mingled with the rich and famous, average Joes window-shopping, and overexcited tourists snapping their cameras at everything. Parking is a pain, but if you can get here without your own wheels, it's perfectly enjoyable. Stroll along and see the resident who owns an iguana (and walks him on a leash), the monkey performer, the fortune teller, and the palm reader, among others. Then hit up the 3-story Barnes and Noble, grab a Coffee Bean frappuccino, find a park bench, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon in the sunshine.Recommended for:Trendsters

One of my favorite places to shop in LA - there's such a great selection of stores - but also the BEST place to listen to street artists. There's usually a good mix of your wannabe pop singer/songwriter, some guy with a uuelele, an a capella soul group, and a few other miscellaneous musicians tossed in.Recommended for:Local Culture
