Beautiful art streets combining arts and crafts, restaurants, cafes... walking into the alleys is such a wonderful experience!

Known as “the warehouse of arts and crafts,” Tian Zi Fang is a charming art district with narrow walkways. Not long ago destined for demolition and home to a grimy street bazaar, the once crumbling Shikumen houses and former factories were renovated, giving life to a thriving neighborhood with over 20 workshops. Since then, many new contemporary artists have settled in. Strolling through the quaint alleys, the fashion boutiques (rather pricey) will grab your attention, while art studios will leave you wondering how many pieces could possibly fit in your luggage on your way home. Miles away from the overly commercial Xintiandi area, Tian Zi Fang is certainly where the Shanghainese concept of “hipster” begins. Also has some good cafes and restaurants.

A really cool mix of old residential buildings with modern shops. The entire area is still a residential place so you kinda get a feel of what people's lives are like. A lot of cool little shops, bars, and restaurants that are on the higher price scale but what they offer are pretty amazing. Worth a visit especially at night. Avoid weekends for extremely crowded roads. Be aware of of your location otherwise you can easily get trapped in a maze.

Tianzifang is a small maze of old alleys that are all still in the classic Shanghai building style. The area has become popular because of the many restaurants and bars that have opened here. Don't go here for the cultural aspect, but if you want to hang out in a cool area or are looking for good restaurants this is a good spot. There are also a good number of local art galleries and local designer shops here.

Very beautiful in the evening. Narrow streets with nice lights everywhere. Shops with all kinds of small stuff all over the place. Also full of bars and restaurants. Not cheap but highly recommended.

This is the name of the neighborhood that surround TaiKang Rd (or TaiKangLu), so the names may be used interchangeably to describe the same place. This is an artsy, bohemian Shikumen neighborhood whose alleys are meant for you to get lost in. Stumble across a studio or gallery, sip coffee in a cafe, or buy a few eccentric crafts from the shops as souvenirs. Between here and XinTianDi, I'd rather shop here.

Tianzifang is a pretty cool maze of shops and restaurants. There are narrow alleyways with very interesting sights around. Even though its a pretty huge tourist destination, Tianzifang managed to maintain its quaint feel with its setup.

Try to meet up with friends before going in. It can get pretty confusing in there and unless you know the place well, almost impossible to find people.
