One of the longest rivers in Rome. During summer there are events, food stalls all around and its interesting and fun just to walk along the banks.

The Tiber doesn't really hold a candle to the Thames or the Seine. When I was here the water was sluggish and malodorous in the extreme. The embankments along the water line are a nice place to hang out with a book, however. The bridges are also magnificent. Many of the great battles in Roman history were fought in front of the bridges. During the battle of the Milvian Bridge Constantine defeated the usurper Maxentius and took control of Italy.

Quote possibile one of the most romantic rivers I've ever seen. A track runs the length of the river, curving underneath Rome's numerous bridges. In the summer, stores and restaurants set up shop alongside the Tevere, creating a movie-like experience as couples dine and families play by the waterside. The way it shines, the way it lights up; there's really nothing quite like it.

The Tiber River runs through the center of Rome and I used it as a landmark for runs. As long as I stayed next to the river I knew how to get back.
At night, the banks of the river have various vendors, music, and other activities set up. It's quite the scene.

Recently there's been complaints about the cleanliness of the Tiber around Rome, and probably for good reason as after winter, a lot of rubbish has flowed in... Yet, a walk along the Tiber is one of the highlights of visiting Rome, seeing th neighborhoods on either side, looking out towards the Vatican and at peters, the Ponte San Angelo and other bridges make this worth the walk. Perhaps put the river cruising off until the river has been cleaned a little if logs and rubbish bags offend you!
