If you're from LA, you can compare this place to the intersection of Hollywood and Highland. Tourists everywhere, congested streets. Pedestrians everywhere, but still, beautiful views.

First time visiting and it was great. Plenty to do and see, keep things slow and try not to allow yourself to get overwhelmed. Walking in Times Square at night you would think it's mid day with all the lights shining. Highly recommend the experience.

If you can ignore the huge droves of tourists and the slightly sketchy vibes, it's a must see, at least once. Times Square earns five stars because it's Times Square. I remember coming here on a field trip in 7th grade and thinking it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It's dazzling and iconic, and there are so many lights that it looks like daytime even in the dead of night. Coming back now as an adult and a local, I can see why you don't visit here as much if you live in New York. The culture in Times Square is kind of scammy. It's 100% true that you have to keep an eye on your pockets and hold onto your purse. There are also a lot of people dressed up as superheroes and popular characters who try to trap people in pictures and then pressure them into paying. The fake Mickey Mouse costumes are really disturbing to me, but maybe that's just because I worked at Disney and the real Mickey and I go way back.

This is a MUST when visiting NYC.
    You never get bored here!
The lights the noise, the people, the food, the colors....
I do strongly recommend you pay a visit to it especially during nighttime.

First time visitors must visit Times Square even if only once. Its crazy and busy with tourists, but you will either love it or hate it. Keep an eye out for the Naked Cowboy

Unless your going to a musical production I really don't see the point. I guess massive advertisements for M&Ms, tgi fridays, and aeropostle stores don't really do it for me.
I can think of a lot better ways to spend a day in New York. Ask most anyone who lives in that city and they'll proudly claim to have never been there. The least authentic part of the city.

Your senses will be overloaded here but don't let it deter you. You can find touristy shops, NY pizza shops, street performers, advertising, musicians all right here.

Yes it's crowded. There's no avoiding that but you're guaranteed to see some interesting people wandering around. Don't expect to find dining and unique shopping here. Times Square is home to every generic chain store in America. Go at night. Yes it's even more crowded but Times Square is meant to be seen with the lights flashing.

I first visited Times Square in the early 1990's when you didn't hang around, especially after dark. Today it is unrecognisable as it has become a safe family friendly attraction. If they could ever pedestrianise it, it would be even better.

When living in New York, avoid as much as possible. However, as a tourist spend an hour and enjoy the huge crush of people and the crazy billboards.

This place is the heart of New York. It's absolutely amazing with all of the lights and stuff. And you just feel that the puls of the City is here. Of course, there will always be a lot of people, espescially in the summer and around christmas. But it's always worth going there :)

Go at night! It is quite a spectacle. Take the L train to Union Sq then transfer to the UPTOWN N or R train to 42st. Use the TKTS booth at 47th St for half priced day-of-the -show tickets for Broadway and Off-Broadway.

Iconic and overwhelming, this space is full of tourists and energy. There is a lot to see in the area, but once you've been there it's not a place you need to see twice.

Everyone should do this once, preferably on New Year's Eve. But only once. Check it off the list and move on. Depending on the weather, this is heaving on NYE or just crowded, but still doable.

Lights, tourists , tacky, cheap, sleezy and a must see at night. Buy same day broadway tickets in the center for 40-70% discounts. Crowded.

Tourist trap area with tons of shopping and street vendors. Fun to walk through but without willpower, you might get sucked into the countless stores and leave with an aching wallet :)

Times Square is for tourists. If you haven't been there, you should check out the neon signs and billboards but this district is known for overpriced, mediocre food, annoying touts and pick pockets. Locals avoid it if they can.

The thing about Times Square is all about feeling so small between the billboards and screens. You can't help but feel a little excitement every time you go back.

I love it and I hate it. A definite must see. The neon lights here could easily be at home in Tokyo or Hong Kong. Absolutely swarmed with tourists. An icon but one that you learn to avoid if you live here.

Nice place to enjoy some of the NY sites and take photos. It's a total tourist trap, but who doesn't love the bright lights and the big city? The city has really improved this area and there is more space for pedestrians to walk around and seats to rest your feet and observe the business that is New York City.

Description

Bright lights, big city: The neon-strewn heart of The Big Apple is where you'll find Broadway theaters that house multimillion-dollar productions, chain restaurants that are spectacles in and of themselves, and enough electronic billboards to overload even the most entertainment-jaded eyes. Sometimes called the 'Crossroads of the World,' Times Square hosts the United States' most famous New Year's ... read more
Eve party -- arrive early to stake out your spot. In the last few years, the area has become decidedly more pedestrian friendly with mini-parks in place of what used to be parking and roadways. Come, sit a spell, and watch the beautiful madness that is New York City play out in front of you. It's the best show on Broadway.
