First time visitors must visit Times Square even if only once. Its crazy and busy with tourists, but you will either love it or hate it. Keep an eye out for the Naked Cowboy

Unless your going to a musical production I really don't see the point. I guess massive advertisements for M&Ms, tgi fridays, and aeropostle stores don't really do it for me.
I can think of a lot better ways to spend a day in New York. Ask most anyone who lives in that city and they'll proudly claim to have never been there. The least authentic part of the city.

If you go to NYC you have to visit Times Square! In all truth it is quite hard to miss, it almost feels like you suddenly stepped into the center of the universe! Probably one of the most watched and well known little spots in the world! A must see if you are touring NYC!

Yes it's crowded. There's no avoiding that but you're guaranteed to see some interesting people wandering around. Don't expect to find dining and unique shopping here. Times Square is home to every generic chain store in America. Go at night. Yes it's even more crowded but Times Square is meant to be seen with the lights flashing.

I first visited Times Square in the early 1990's when you didn't hang around, especially after dark. Today it is unrecognisable as it has become a safe family friendly attraction. If they could ever pedestrianise it, it would be even better.

When living in New York, avoid as much as possible. However, as a tourist spend an hour and enjoy the huge crush of people and the crazy billboards.

This place is the heart of New York. It's absolutely amazing with all of the lights and stuff. And you just feel that the puls of the City is here. Of course, there will always be a lot of people, espescially in the summer and around christmas. But it's always worth going there :)

Go at night! It is quite a spectacle. Take the L train to Union Sq then transfer to the UPTOWN N or R train to 42st. Use the TKTS booth at 47th St for half priced day-of-the -show tickets for Broadway and Off-Broadway.

Iconic and overwhelming, this space is full of tourists and energy. There is a lot to see in the area, but once you've been there it's not a place you need to see twice.

Everyone should do this once, preferably on New Year's Eve. But only once. Check it off the list and move on. Depending on the weather, this is heaving on NYE or just crowded, but still doable.

Lights, tourists , tacky, cheap, sleezy and a must see at night. Buy same day broadway tickets in the center for 40-70% discounts. Crowded.

Tourist trap area with tons of shopping and street vendors. Fun to walk through but without willpower, you might get sucked into the countless stores and leave with an aching wallet :)

Times Square is for tourists. If you haven't been there, you should check out the neon signs and billboards but this district is known for overpriced, mediocre food, annoying touts and pick pockets. Locals avoid it if they can.

The thing about Times Square is all about feeling so small between the billboards and screens. You can't help but feel a little excitement every time you go back.

I love it and I hate it. A definite must see. The neon lights here could easily be at home in Tokyo or Hong Kong. Absolutely swarmed with tourists. An icon but one that you learn to avoid if you live here.

Definitely a great place to be! Full of people all night long; I was on my own in the city and I didn't even fear for my safety. The lights are mesmerizing...tons of shops, restaurants, and things to see in the vicinity!

There is no other place like Times Square in North America. The best time to visit is at night when you can view the vibrant lights, shop in provocatively decorated stores, and enjoy a good American cuisine while you people watch from a window seat in one of many restaurants.

Times Square is only the center of the universe and a New York must. The lights, the people, the energy - this is what the Big Apple is all about and it's all there in a square that really isn't a square at all. Leave it to NY to redefine geometry as we know it.

So pretty much any movie that's been about a trip to NYC has filmed a scene here, but some are more iconic than others. "Taxi Driver" for instance, has some climactic action between all the traffic and lights that make up Times Square. Walk around in the early hours of the morning, when tourism more or less takes a break, and you may see a movie filming!

The heavy presence of tourists and the flashing lights and billboards make Time Square an enthralling and overwhelming area. Whether you're a first timer or a frequent visitor to Times Square, there's a part of you that will always be blown away by the flashy magnitude of the place.

Description

Bright lights, big city: The neon-strewn heart of The Big Apple is where you'll find Broadway theaters that house multimillion-dollar productions, chain restaurants that are spectacles in and of themselves, and enough electronic billboards to overload even the most entertainment-jaded eyes. Sometimes called the 'Crossroads of the World,' Times Square hosts the United States' most famous New Year's ... read more
Eve party -- arrive early to stake out your spot. In the last few years, the area has become decidedly more pedestrian friendly with mini-parks in place of what used to be parking and roadways. Come, sit a spell, and watch the beautiful madness that is New York City play out in front of you. It's the best show on Broadway.
