Cheap, good, and legendary, Top Dog is a hot dog shack by University of California at Berkeley. They make hot dogs, and hot dogs are all they make. Join in with the co-ed crowd and munch down a hot dog any time of day, even at 4 a.m.

I WANNA HOT DOG! I wish I didn't live hundreds of miles away. Top Dog is a must stop destination when visiting UC Berkeley. TD sever a variety of different hot dogs. The closest thing in socal was the Dog Out in Riverside, which was a copy that didn't last.

I once ate here shortly after eating dinner at another restaurant. I guess you could say it was my dessert. Highly Recommended!

A college town where you can't find anything to eat after 2am?

Top Dog is one of the places you can count on to get a decent late-night snack up until 3am. The sausages and hot dogs are good, and they have a fairly comprehensive selection of condiments (unless you are used to Chicago-style dogs).

Top Dog is a favorite in the Berkeley area, almost a hole-in-the-wall that serves up delicious varieties of hot dogs and sausages. If you want, you can even buy packs of the dogs to go from their refrigerator so you can use them for a BBQ or just your own eating at home. I am partial to the lemon Chicken one, but I have heard great things about pretty much all the varieties! Nothing overly fancy in the flavors (no weird meats or strange seasonings), everything is pretty standard from the bratwurst to the plain hot dog to the garlic variety. No need to be adventurous to eat here!

"Best hot dog in the known universe." Or at least the Bay Area. Damn straight. The Russian mustard will put hair on your chest! Love how they call the veggie dog "The Weenie."

The hot Russian mustard is hotter than the Louisianna hot link! Whew! Spicier than a mail order Balkan bride versus a red headed Ragin Cajun!

Bigger and cleaner than the original on the south side on Durant! Plus it has a view window to watch Center street passersby, which is a step up the food chain than the south side homeless hippies.

Still all the charm of an Appalachian trailer park family barbeque, but now with more healthier choices besides a Top, Bock, or Kiel from the old days! Lemon-chicken dog? Isn't that a Chinese delicacy?

Also unlike Durant Street, there are actually more than 2 stools to sit and mouth that wiener between your lips!

But like Durant, there is still that stainless tub of relish, and that crockpot full of warm sauerkraut! But I do miss the "Vote for Malarkey" bumper sticker of Top Dog #1.

Ah, sweet memories of Berkeley are not complete without the Top Dog experience revisited regularly

Top Dog is the king of Berkeley sausage venders. With great buns and meats imported from the East Coast, you'll definitely get an authentic and tasty experience. For those shying away from beef, the healthier chicken sausages are also really delicious. And of course, there is the vegan option.

So cheap and tasty, you may want to get two ;)
