The farm has been in the family so long that Napoleon, literally, stayed here. I met Alfredo, the current family owner, about six years ago, and fell in love with the place. It was one of the first organic agriturismi in Umbria and has been growing organic pizza wheat and sunflowers for oil ever since. (And, yes, the sunflowers are gorgeous all summer long.)
Don't expect any of the fancy spas that other agriturismi have added lately. This is a true working farm, with WWOOFers from around the world constantly on the premises. During the summers, Alfredo often opens the restaurant for visitors on the weekends, using his own wheat to make the most delectable pizzas.

Torre Colombaia is an agriturismo owned by a friend of a friend. It's in Umbria, so close enough to Tuscany. They make their own farro (spelt) products, all organic. Plus harvest their own sunflower seeds. It's actually outside Deruta in San Biagio della Valle.Recommended for:Vegetarian
