Description

Visit the tallest remaining tower in Bologna, the Torre degli Asinelli, a salient symbol of this city that was once famous for its towers. Built in the 12th century by the Asinelli family, this tower stands 97 meters tall and leans slightly but not as much as the nearby Garisenda Tower. The denizens of Bologna have used the Torre degli Asinelli for a number of purposes through the years. Originally, it was a private fortress, and then it was used as a prison, a scientific aid, a sight post during bombing raids and a television station. For a 3 euro fee, you can climb to the top of this landmark and see a beautiful vista of the red roofs of Bologna and the verdant hills beyond.
