Hotel Tourist House, despite it's unfortunate name, is a nice place to stay. It's on a busy street and the entrance is nothing to speak of, but once inside I was glad to see that it's a lovely, clean place. There are some entertaining sculptures just inside the entrance on the stairwell that made me smile every time I came in. This is not the kind of place where you fool yourself into believing that you are friends with the reception or cleaning staff -- they are not rude but they don't go out of their way to be friendly. The room was great though -- really pretty with substantial furniture (how could I not love that canopy bed?) Some hotels spend all their time and money creating a grand lobby and then the rooms are a big disappointment, but the case is just the opposite at Hotel Tourist House. The room held the same tone as the public areas but felt more special. I was impressed. The bathroom is small, but for European standards not ridiculous. The breakfast room is also small but has a real charm to it. It's sunny in the morning and the guests cluster around these little table and you feel like you're in a real cafe.

The Tourist House is a reasonably priced option located on a nice piazza across from an amazing church. The room had a private terrace, soothing colors, fun bathroom tiles, and lots of natural light. There’s a charming, tiny breakfast room, but otherwise, there’s no real common space. There’s also no elevator (so I wouldn't come here if you're still on crutches from your battle to the death with a venetian gondolier or if you're traveling with too much luggage), though the red carpet leading up the stairs was a cute touch. The staff wasn’t overly attentive, but they were helpful enough for an economic hotel. Overall, this feels like a good place for travelers on a budget, and those who’d rather spend lots of time out and about in Florence rather than getting mani/pedis or room service inside their luxury hotel.

The Tourist House was nothing to write home about, but was a good option for our budget-minded trio. Italy can be very expensive with the increasingly number of high end hotels. We chose this lodging option after a lot of online research and were satisfied with our find. The location is on a relatively quiet street, but close enough to all the musuems and to the Duomo. Other than the lady that let us into the place, i dont remember seeing anyone else. The room was nice and clean as was the bathroom so we were happy. Our stay felt like we were in a guest house. While the service was basically non-existent, we didnt seem to mind.
