There's two things that make Tranquility Bay Resort exceptional, and that's the location and the people. It's located a 45 minute boat ride north of San Pedro which is the main town on Ambergris Quay. You can only get to TBR via boat, and its remote location all the way at the top of the island guarantees that sense of being away from it all. It's a place to kick off your shoes, grab your snorkel (kayak, saiboat, fishing rod...) and start enjoying your vacation right away. Other than being away from it all, TBR is also the closest resort to the fringing reef. In fact, you can swim right out to the reef from the beach and see some amazing wildlife and coral. No boat ride needed.
Now to the people. From Mr. Pete the manager, to Gio in the restaurant, to Jamaal in the dive shop, to David on the beach, the staff of TBR welcomes you and make you feel like family. Our kids ages 11 and 13 roamed the property, snorkeled, and fished as much as they wanted to. It was totally safe and there was always some to lend them a fishing rod or get them some bait. We loved chatting with the staff and getting a sense for their experiences growing up in Belize.
We did two outings during our week at TBR, the first was a snorkeling trip with Manatees, and yes, we really did see them in the wild and snorkeled with them! This trip included a quick stop to a Mayan ruin, a visit to the headquarters of the marine preserve, and lunch in Mexico. Definitely worthwhile. Our other trip was to the NOT TO BE MISSED Hol Chan Marine Park for an easy, but fabulous scuba dive (we saw turtles, and rays and beautiful coral formations at 35 ft.) and Shark Ray Alley (an additional stop nearby) where we snorkeled in 10ft of water with three nurse sharks and about 15 rays. Great experience and highly recommended. Our kids LOVED it and Jamaal took great care of all of us as we swam with sharks.
The beach at TBR was beautiful and their website is accurate...it really does look like that. I was able to run along the water for about 2 miles till the path ended in that direction so there’s a chance to get some on-land exercise. The food was tasty and the breakfasts were substantial. The sunsets were only so-so because the sun sets behind the island, but drinking a cold beer on the deck of the restaurant during the sunset was one of our favorite activities. The cabana with the loft worked perfectly for our family of four. We stocked up on lunch supplies in San Pedro when we arrived so we only ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. The little refrigerator and the microwave made this possible and it was nice to have that flexibility. Our flights to and from San Pedro on Tropic Air were organized by TBR and timed perfectly with our international flight. I highly recommend that airline too.Recommended for:
