While in Florence in April, we visited the duomo in the morning, before 10:00 am, and there weren't any lines or major crowds. We climbed up the bell tower for the views of Florence and it was amazing!

Cool cuz it was so beautiful. The bridge itself has some pretty interesting history, as it is special because it still has shops along it. Apparently, it used to be full of butchers, but the Duke wanted to raise the status of the bridge, so butchers were banned and jewelers moved in. Worth seeing

Michelangelo was a Renaissance master, whose works continue to inspire to this day. His statue of David was commissioned by the Florence Cathedral. He started the work when he was 26 and completed it 2 years later. Ironically, other sculptors had started the David statue before him but could not complete it for various reasons. Michelangelo convinced the committee that ...

Sure, the Piazza della Signoria is kind of touristy. Some of the overpriced restaurants nearby only accentuate that fact. It can get incredibly crowded as people circle around the replica statute of David in the square or make their way to the Uffizi Gallery. Nevertheless, there is something absolutely magical about sitting around the Piazza della Signoria at night and ...

The Arno is the river through Pisa and Florence (and many other towns). When I land in a new town, I look for river because there's likely to be good running along them. In Pisa, there are a couple of decent miles to run here, and when you want to go back, find a bridge and run back on the ...

Great way to spend the afternoon. Liked it better than the Pitti Palace even. Just don't go in expecting French gardens or you'll be as disappointed as some of the visitors we overheard.

I went to Florence off-season, this was pretty much the only place I found streetvendors pushing you to buy touristy crap. Walk passing my everything and go straight to the church. You can get here quickly from Palazzo Pitty using the public bus system.

From outside you would think it is just a fortress. Yet the interior houses an incredible wealth of works of art. If you are going for the first time choose the Galleria Palatina and the Monumental Apartments where the king of Italy once resided.
