Arizmendi Bakery Cooperative
1331 9th Avenue, San Francisco, CA
Eric Brink's rating: Mar 10, 2014
Gayle and I each took last Friday afternoon off and came into the City to see the Georgia O'Keeffe Exhibit at the De Young. After that, we walked over to Park Chow for Lunch, and on a hunch I asked ... read more
Gayle to see if there was an Arizmendi nearby. This small chain evolved from Berkeley's Cheese Board, and I've been a regular patron of their shops in Emeryville, Oakland, and San Rafael. And what do you know, this Inner Sunset Outpost was only a block or 2 away! Gayle works for the City of Walnut Creek, and I'm fond of pointing out that this Contra Costa County economic powerhouse will (in my eyes) remain a bakery backwater until an Arizmendi sets up shop there. In the meantime, I will continue to be "forced" to travel many miles for a chance to buy corn cherry scones, socialist pizza, and other gluten goodness. We found that and more at this Arizmendi. This version seems smaller than the other ones, but with similar selections and consistently delicious versions. I picked out a half a dozen assorted scones for the week and left knowing that my upcoming mornings would start off on the right foot. Our extra bonus was the chocolate chip cookie that was wonderfully warm, melty, and tasty.

The canyon is amazing! The second lookout is not as scenic as the first but there are some great views in some turns outs between the first and second view point with waterfalls. We saw some billy ... read more

La Puerta Roja
Chacabuco 733, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal, Argentina
Cindy 's rating: Mar 10, 2014
La Puerta Roja has a great divey feel: there's no sign, only a (surprise!) red door to mark the place. A fun, unpretentious and laidback atmosphere reigns over, packed with locals and tourists alike. ... read more
There's also a pool table until midnight. The food is amazing for a bar: try their Super Nachos (with chili and guacamole) or the German sausage (can't remember the name). They also have a great selection of beer on tap, and Happy Hour until 22 hrs. It's definitely not a place to see-and-be-seen, but to relax with friends.

Very pleasantly surprised for the price. A little bit to the west of Death Valley, this is great for making a pit stop before entering the park. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and wifi is ... read more
pretty good I find (despite the other reviews). The town is meh, but there are a couple of non chain restaurants and there are some banks, rite aids and other resources that are nice to have access to before continuing onto death valley.

Catalunya, La Boqueria food market and several transport connections - metro, train and airport bus. From Hotel Curious you can explore most of Barcelona city centre on foot, and return to relax in clean modern accommodation which has been thoughtfully and colourfully decorated. The reception staff were incredibly helpful. For lunch close by I recommend the 3-course lunch at Dos Trece for around 10 Euros on Carrer Carme, and for dinner La Fonda on Carrer dels Escudellers. Happy to recommend Hotel Curious!
