The Ahwahnee

It is iconic. It is beautiful. It is the perfect place to grab a hot cocoa on a misty Yellowstone morning or a glass of wine on a warm summer evening. I can't actually recall if I have stayed in a ... read more
room at the Ahwahnee but it is a must-visit stop every time I go to the national park, whether for a fabulous dining experience or just a quick pop into the gift shop. The dining room is the ultimate epitome of rustic elegance; the decor just as delicious as the menu items. Even if you aren't keen on having a full meal, do take the time to check out this beautiful and historic building that has been the center of luxury in Yosemite Valley for nearly 100 years. You'll be happy you did.

simple but suitable accommodation, clean ablution blocks, entertainment, and multiple dining selections. I'm a fan of Camp Curry, in part because I can remember going there as a kid and my mother's enthusiasm for the place. There's also the nostalgia - there is just something warm and fuzzy about staying in a place that families have been going for generations. I was there last in 2014 and it is just as good as I remember it. Of course, the best thing about the camp and the village is the location, right in the shadow of Half Dome, on the Valley floor. Stay in one of the canvas tents, just stop in for a pizza at the village, or rent bikes to pedal around the valley loop.
