After finishing a test in the Los Angeles area, my boyfriend decided to surprise me and take me to Square One Dining for a late brunch. There isn't a parking lot for this particular restaurant, so you ... read more
will have to find street parking. Apparently it is just around the corner from the Scientology building. Anyway, try to find parking on one of the smaller streets, especially if you are going during brunch time. There was a short wait, about fifteen minutes, before we were seated somewhere inside. The place is quite small, so my boyfriend requested for a table outside. We were cramped between two tables and there was barely any room to move. I think sitting outside is a lot more relaxing, especially if it is a nice day outside. Ambiance is nice, especially if you're outside. This would be a very nice place for a date. I decided to go with the brioche french toast with vanilla whipped cream and strawberry rhubarb. This is where I made my mistake, as I had mentioned in other brunch reviews. I had sat next to a table where the customers had ordered lunch and savory foods, and yet I still decided to go with their most popular item even though I like savory foods! My boyfriend was smart and decided to go with one of the benedicts: poached eggs, portabello mushroom, frisee, & feta on a tuscan roll with hollandaise. The dishes came pretty quickly, and although I was very pleased with my dish and its presentation, I could not help but be drawn to the savory scent of my boyfriend's dish. I ended up eating one piece of the brioche toast before helping my boyfriend devour his dish. Then, we both set off to work to finish my toast. I have to say that I really enjoyed the savory dish more. I found it to be a lot more filling and satisfying, especially when you are craving something more heavy. The brioche french toast was good, especially with the cream (the strawberry rhubarb was just okay), and I honestly like french toast, but I didn't find it to be as special as the benedict. If you are big on sweets for breakfast, then I saw you should definitely go with the toast, as it was delicious. However, it was too sweet for me. I prefer some meat for my breakfast! Service was very good. The place is a little pricey, as his was about $14 and mine is $10 plus another $3 for the cream and the rhubarb. (I just wanted the toast, but my bf convinced me that I might as well try something with it, especially if people were raving about the vanilla whipped cream!) I definitely learned my lesson - don't go with what Yelpers are saying, but also consider your gut feeling and what you like to eat! Combine the two for a thoroughly satisfied palate.

artichokes as a starter. They use oak during the grilling , great flavor ! All the mains are great. Stand outs are the Hawaiian ribeye , the ribs , and the flying tuna platter. Don't miss the chocolate sundae for dessert. It comes with a gravy boat of scharffenberger chocolate ! It's ridiculously great.
