Cathedral Park is located in the St. Johns neighborhood in North Portland. I had never been to this part of Portland until I sought to check this park out. It is a bit out of the way, but the park is ... read more
unique in that it sits under the St. Johns Bridge and is located next to the Willamette River. The architecture of the bridge above makes for an amazing backdrop for the park. It totally makes sense why this is a popular outdoor wedding venue in Portland. Since it is away from the city core, the park does not draw much of a crowd. Mostly people getting an outdoor workout or soaking up some rays. Hence, it is a peaceful place to visit and contemplate things. If you are a fan of beautiful architecture or looking for a place to think, I would suggest checking out Cathedral Park. If neither of those things interest you, I would probably skip this attraction since it so far out. Though if you are checking out the St. Johns neighborhood anyway, the park would make for a nice side trip in the area.

numerous community events throughout the year. It is quite a large park as it covers about two city blocks. There is plenty to here as there are tennis courts, a soccer and baseball field. There is also a children's playground and some nice water fountains displays here. It is great to visit during the daytime on a sunny day to do some sunbathing or simply read a book in the sun. Though being in the core of the city, it can get sketchy here at times. Even criminal. Try to avoid the park at night, or at least keep in well lit areas. Despite the bad elements, Cal Anderson Park is a nice spot to go for Capitol Hill residents to stay active rather than be stuck in their apartments all day . Plenty to do here. Or not, if you just want to enjoy doing nothing and take in the beauty of the park.

houses intimidating compared to simply walking into a coffee shop and ordering tea. While I did feel awkward at first when trying to order, once I knew how to order tea here, it seemed as straightforward as ordering a drink at a coffee shop. The ambiance here feels like you are sitting in someone's home drinking some tea. You can sit inside the shop in one of the comfy chairs or take a seat on the outdoor balcony deck. A popular chill spot to work and study or simply relax. As far as the tea goes, you can order a cup of tea or a pot of it. A pot consists of three cups worth of tea FYI. They also have bubble tea and kombucha. There are over 100 varieties of tea. They have a display case in which you can smell the tea before you order. Just look for the number corresponding to the tea you are interested in. Prices for a pot of tea depend on the type of tea you are ordering. They start at around $4 a pot. I tried the ginger lime rooibos tea (#79) as I was having some stomach issues. Rooibos and ginger are great for digestion. The tea had plenty of ginger flavor to it. I would recommend this tea if you are looking for something that soothes your tummy. If you are looking for a nice tea house in Portland, I would suggest Tea Chai Te. Ambiance is great. It is the antithesis of the hectic vibe that you find at many coffee shops. Here you will find calm.

One of the best views of Manhattan is from Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City across the East River. Surprisingly, it's a very quiet park. A nice stroll after visiting the LIC Flea.
