Everyone raves about the transportation system in Portland and it is quite nice and convenient compared to transportation systems in other American cities. Clean and simple and downtown it's even free, Portland's transport lives up to it's reputation.

Mostly dependable and mostly clean. If you're not used to strangers talking to you, this is not the ride for you. The max downtown is really nice to jumping all over the city and for just 5$ for all day!

Portland has an excellent public transportation system, and is seen as a model for other cities. A whole fleet of new streetcars will soon be coming up, too, connecting more of the city. The only problem is that the lines stop running around midnight or 1 am so it's not too convenient for people going out partying. Passes are affordable and it's convenient for cyclists (you can take your bike on the Max and there are bike racks on all the buses).

Public Transit in Portland is hard to beat and starting with the ride to Downtown from PDX. There's also a "Fareless Square" within within the Downtown Core, lots of streetcar and bus connections, and easy online trip planning. This makes things really easy to navigate around town and without a car.

I'm a huge fan of Portland's public transportation. Admittedly I haven't used the buses many times, but Max is great. It's free in the main downtown area, and super fast.

As of Winter 2011, riding the streetcar through downtown locations was free. I believe the city is going to start charging at some point in the future. There is a stop directly outside of the hotel and it will take you lots of fun places on the west side of the river. Downside is it picks up a lot of university kids and makes frequent stops, so it is almost as fast to walk.

The public transportation in Portland is probably one of the best systems in America. It is very clean, on-time, and cheap. I'd recommend using the max as much as possible if you're going around downtown.

Portland has a great public transportation system. The streetcar is amazing, in that it loops from the Northwest district through the Pearl and to the school, cleanly, quietly, and efficiently.

Very clean, fast, and the coverage was enough to get me everywhere I needed to go.

Description

Explore Portland using its wonderful public transportation system, which is probably one of the best systems in America. It is a role model for other cities and is clean, cheap and provides non-stop bus, light rail and commuter rail service in the Portland metro area. It not only eases traffic congestion, but also reduces air pollution. It is estimated that in the absence of Trimet, a commuter would waste close to five hours in traffic annually, which costs the country close to $100 million in time and fuel. Visitors are also advised that they choose Trimet Bus, Max & Portland Streetcar over driving and transit use in the Portland area, particularly during weekends.
