Trófea Grill Étterem

1145 Budapest, Erzsébet királyné útja 5, Hungary
2 reviews

In 2005, at the end of a long backpacking trip, friends of my then-girlfriend (who is Hungarian) brought us here for dinner. Trofea pushes all the right buttons for Hungarian cuisine. They have fantastic grilled meats of every variety and the most varied buffet salad bar that I've ever seen. The interior is tricked out like a hunting lodge with ...

    Margaret Island

2.15 mi from Trófea Grill Étterem
    24 reviews

I have not experienced any of the recreational activities offered at Margaret Island. Like many of my other European adventures, I went to Margaret Island for some soccer. It was the final match of 2008 European Cup and even our small group was torn between Spain and Germany. Our hostel recommended watching the match at Margaret Island and it was ...

Budapest is known for its ruin bars and this is the only one I have been to, and I absolutely loved it. It used to be a small courtyard apartment building typical of Budapest. They basically put a roof on the courtyard and turned it into an indoor courtyard where you still have the trees and people can stand on ...

Unfortunately the statue is covered in graffiti, but it is a picturesque stop on the way up Gellert Hill to the Citadel. Some good views, but keep climbing for the best ones.

The Budapest Funicular runs from the Duna Corso near the Chain Bridge up to Buda Castle. It is different from the Istanbul funiculars in that it's above ground and you can see out the front window the whole way up. It's a cheap and fun way to get up a really steep hill.

Buda Castle is not looked on by Hungarians with the same fondness as the Chain Bridge or the Parliament Building. The medieval structure was destroyed during the recapture of Budapest from the Turks and the current incarnation was built during the period of Habsburg Domination. It reached its current grandeur during the reign of Maria Theresa. Buda Castle is best ...

The intimate, old setting was awesome. We got cheap tickets up in the balcony for Madame Butterfly and the acoustics and view were great. Beautiful time, lots of last minute student types showed up and sat in the aisles and steps around us. It was pure magic. Great acoustics, impressive history, opulent decor. Cheap drinks at intermission. Beautiful.

As Danube tour is an excellent way to take in the city as most of the major monuments are visible from the water: Buda Castle, Gellert Hill, the Parliament Building and the Chain Bridge. When I visited Budapest I took a Danube cruise up ...
