In 2005, at the end of a long backpacking trip, friends of my then-girlfriend (who is Hungarian) brought us here for dinner. Trofea pushes all the right buttons for Hungarian cuisine. They have fantastic grilled meats of every variety and the most varied buffet salad bar that I've ever seen. The interior is tricked out like a hunting lodge with ...

The Szechenyi Baths are one of Budapest's most worthwhile experiences. Budapest has a handful of thermal springs that were converted into baths by the Romans and have served that purpose ever since. Szechenyi is located in City Park. The building itself is a handsome Fin de Siecle palace leftover from the Habsburg era. You can rent a locker or a ...

This bath in Budapest is pretty great. The water feels clean and lovely, and when we were there, it wasn't too crowded. They give you towels and the dressing rooms are in great shape. There are massages and other services available, but we did not partake in them. The outside area is huge and comfortable, lots of chairs and lounging ...

I've been to concerts and I've been to Lollapalooza but the Sziget Music Festival reigns alone as the best overall concert experience that I have yet experienced. I went in 2006 with my girlfriend at the time (who is Hungarian) and a group of her friends. That year Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand and a bunch of Hungarian bands were playing. Sziget ...

This is one of THE original 'ruin bars' (Kerts) in Budapest and it really is a MUST see when you visit. Great crowd almost any night and unique atmosphere which anyone will appreciate (young or old) at least for 1 drink. In the summer months it gets REALLY crowded but is large enough so never a line.

The Danube was historically one of the most important rivers in the world. For centuries it separated the Roman Empire from the Barbarian hordes. Several important European cities are located on the Danube, including the capital cities of Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest. Terminating in the Black Sea the Danube is also one of the main shipping conduits of Central Europe. ...

I love this place and its one of the most popular sites in the city. The present day lovely lookout towers / decorative fortification of Fisherman’s Bastion were built in the 19th century to serve as a lookout tower for the best panoramic views in Budapest. High up from the castle walls you can take fantastic photos of the city.

This is one of my favourite works of architecture because it is engraved with all the names of the labourers who were involved in the building. If you're crossing between Buda and Pest and want a pleasant walk this is the way to do it and also see some amazing work.

The intimate, old setting was awesome. We got cheap tickets up in the balcony for Madame Butterfly and the acoustics and view were great. Beautiful time, lots of last minute student types showed up and sat in the aisles and steps around us. It was pure magic. Great acoustics, impressive history, opulent decor. Cheap drinks at intermission. Beautiful.

Due to timing problems we did not go into this lovely Synagogue but just seeing the exterior alone is extremely impressive. Two great domes catch the color of the sunsets and are magestic and beautiful. Also houses the Jewish Museum and a fountain memorial garden for Holocaust victims.
