Trolley Stop Cafe

1923 Saint Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA
1 review

Something of a New Orleans institution, the Trolley Stop Cafe along the streetcar line on St. Charles has excellent diner-type food, and is a go-to place for tourists and locals alike looking for inexpensive eats on the way to or from the Quarter. I'm a particularly big fan of their breakfast menu.

I loved seeing all of the WW2 memorabilia, but this is definitely hard to see! The movie "Beyond All Boundaries" was AMAZING!! I really felt that I could understand what the men and women of that era were feeling as I watched that movie.

St. Charles Streetcar is a great way to see New Orleans outside of the French Quarter. The ticket is cheap - it's only $1.25! However, note after 5:30 pm the trolley doesn't run as regularly (I think it stops every 35 minutes) so try to get acquainted with the trolley schedule.

When in New Orleans, you must visit at least one of the "Cities of the Dead". Do not go at night (Why would you?)! Try to visit as part of a New Orleans bus tour, rather than going alone, as unsavory characters (including gangs) are said to hang out here. You will enjoy walking amidst the many monuments, which are ...

The D-Day Museum, now known as the National WWII Museum, opened after Stephen Ambrose wrote the book, Tom Hanks did the movie, and Spielberg did the mini-series. As with each of those preceding projects, the museum is first rate. Louisiana and its swamps is the home of the Higgins boat, the flat-bottomed boats used in the D-Day landings and your ...

The Odgen is a fabulous art museum holding the largest collection of Southern Art in the world; there are permanent galleries but also a few rooms with temporary exhibits. The last time I was there, there was an exhibit on Hip Hop, which was just awesome--it was well thought out and really engaging. On Thursdays, the museum also hosts a ...

Boasting a gritty-meets-artsy vibe, The Bridge Lounge is a classy refuge for those who want to drink good drinks and chat with their friends rather than rage on a bender. Located in a shopping center that was once an ice rink, across from a cemetery and just down the street from Commander's Palace, it's hard to get more New Orleans than the Garden District Book Shop. It's a little small and a little cluttered, but the charm makes up for it. This shop seems to draw the biggest names for ...
