Western aesthetics at the Uffizi Gallery or while admiring Michaelangelo's David statue, enhance your wardrobe at the myriad leather markets and clothing shops, or simply stroll through the Vespa-strewn streets and ancient alleys with a hazelnut gelato in hand. Visit Tuscany's other urban treasures: Siena's expansive Piazza del Campo, Lucca's ancient city walls or, of course, Pisa's leaning tower. And then, get out. Leave the cities behind for a leisurely drive through the countryside. For some, this is Tuscany: softly rolling hills, fields of blooming sunflowers, rows of statuesque Italian cypresses and sun-kissed vineyards, interrupted from time to time with an award-winning osteria or stone castle. Small-town hotels and rural B&Bs are ubiquitous, and renting a villa with a half-dozen or so friends or family can be surprisingly affordable.
