I took lessons and volunteered here. They have a great approach and are really supportive. Let me know if you need a contact. They also can provide recommendations from previous students.

Great spot in a terrific neighborhood away from the not so great elements of the Mariscal.

I stayed here for a few weeks and it´s a really good hostel. It´s located in El Batan, which is in the North of the city. Directly in back of it is a huge park and it´s relatively easy to get to the Mariscal, shops, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.

Nicest backbacking hostel in all of Quito. The Maple provides a warm, safe, family feel and - for a hostel - its has a really cool interior design. It's also perfectly located adjacent to the bars, ... read more
restaurants and shops of Mariscal Sucre on a lovely tree-lined side street. Most of the lodging is dormitory style, but you can generally at least secure a room for your group. And if not, the other travelers at this spot are generally amiable folk. Great spot.

Here's a nice, economical hostel in the Mariscal District. It is very clean, safe and friendly - and they have a fantastic breakfast patio.

Fun place. This is best part of Quito to hang in if you are a younger, international traveler. Lots of great bars, restaurants, Internet cafes, shops, etc.

Although not the prettiest part of town, La Mariscal is the hands down best area to be for learning Spanish and staying in town for any duration as an international traveler. The neighborhood has many good shops, bars, restaurants and a gazillion Internet cafes. It is also fairly central, making it a good base of operations for exploring other parts of the city.
