Once I walked into the lobby the first thing I noticed was how lit the place was, and that despite the fact that curtains hanged in every window, making it a private environment. Even though it was given four stars, its real class stands somewhat in-between three and four; since the comfortable rooms are in contrast with a juvenile and informal lobby, furnished with beach chairs and a rug that seemed stolen from a billiard room. The place, though, with its warm orange colour, gives the impression to be faithful to the name that it bears, since I was strongly reminded of a place that would easily overlook the sea. Definitely not a leisure hotel, the UNA Hotel Mediterraneo should be perfect for a business stay in Milan.

Depending on what part of this hotel I am thinking about I can write a particularly nice or a particularly bad review. If, for example, I am considering the outside building and the lobby, well… I have nothing good to say about them. The building was ‘no comment’ (a big barrack-like thing that comes up in the middle of a small square) whilst the lobby and restaurant are absolutely style-less. There were deckchairs that had no business being there, right in the middle of the reception area, and weird, horrible curtains that fall over open cupboards to hide the plates and cutlery. If I am taking the rooms and bathrooms into consideration (and let’s face it, those are the most important things in a hotel), I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were newly restored and particularly clean and bright. I loved the marble bathroom and the furniture in the room. I only hope that they keep refurnishing the whole hotel sooner or later.

So this is a really comfy, quite central hotel in Porta Romana, Milano.
It is supposed to be 4 stars but its not. Its 3 stars with a nice breakfast.
There are also a couple of nice restaurants at walking distance.
I had stayed there recently and also 7 years ago and it is still the same. Ask for room 706. Its exterior, very sunny and has a nice big bathroom.
