After a driving winding roads through groves of cork oak, navigating the hilltop town of Orune we found Su Tempiesu. After parking by the visitor center we walked down the winding wooded trail into a hidden valley. The trail was delightful. Every few meters we found cork signs about the flora and fauna of the valley. At the very bottom sited on a creek was the lovely sacred water temple. Sections have been reconstructed but much is original, as it was hidden for centuries by a landslide. The precise construction around the well itself is of exotic basalt. How did the ancients transport it to this remote valley? The people who take care of this special place were warm and enjoyed having visitors who appreciated their stewardship. Not far from Nuoro.
