The Union Square Greenmarket is a farmer's market located in Union Square Park. The farmers from around the region are open for business on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. They sell a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.

This may be the best Farmers Market in all of Manhattan. On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, you will be surrounded by farmers selling their fresh produce as well as artisan food purveyors selling their wares. You can also find food to go from several tables.

This is worth the subway ride uptown for me. Philips Orchards has the best apple butter, Hudson Valley Farms has wonderful smoked duck breast, and when the peaches start flowing in the summer you just cannot beat the fruit here. Also wine, beer, Flying Pig Farm pork and sausages, and lots of cheese and bakeries. Can often feel too crowded and cramped.

I love going to the market on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It is a great way to start off my day. I love to buy some flowers or fresh vegetables, it makes be feel better about myself and it helps me feel like I've accomplished something on my lazy weekends.

The Union Square market (I was unaware it was even called 'greenmarket' to be quite honest) is one of the better ones in the city. Much of the food and 'greens' are locally sourced, and although the prices are higher than non local equivalents, it's not unreasonable.

I love the Union Square Greenmarket--it's one of my favorite things about living in NY. Go early if you want the best possible selection or if you're seeking something that's likely to go quickly. Go late to get end-of-day bargains and to avoid the crowds.

The Union Square Farmers Market is the largest and most popular open-air food market in New York City. While there are farmers markets throughout the entire city the one at Union Square operates year round, four days a week, and is really is at its peak in the summer and fall. A visit is a real New York experience that couples the city’s obsession with food, with top notch people watching. In addition to numerous stands displaying heaps of fresh fruits and veggies you can find daily caught seafood, eggs, hand-made cheeses, baked goods and beautiful flowers — all sourced from local farms and for the most part, organic. The market is certainly THE most reasonable place to shop for food in the city and it is a wonderful place to take a child to explore. The people who work the stands are always up for a chat about what they are selling and are thrilled to introduce new things that you don’t see in your average American supermarket. I am starving just thinking about it.Recommended for:Family Travelers
